  • Anyone watching FIFA World Cup

I know they call it soccer here and that means it has very few fans in USA. Add to it USA did not even qualify for it.

But some of the early games have been exciting. Mexico pulled out a win. The Brazil match was exciting, as was Spain Vs. Portugal.

Love World Cup!!  Have gone to games in 2 different cups in the past.  Was hoping ot go to this one, but twins born in 2016 put the crimp on that.  Not sure I want to travel to Dubai for 2022.  However 2026 will be awesome!

I think very few fans is way off.   Tons of soccer fans here.   I'm watching every single game, which is probably on the extreme end.  However, just about everyone I know who has any interest in sports is following it.  Interest will definitely go up in the knockout stages.

This is the first Cup that I haven't watched...clearly related to USA not qualifying. Although the FIFA corruption scandal also soured me a tad a few years ago.

Nope. If the US isn't in it I really don't care. At least if they are on the field you don't see nearly as much carrying on for getting brushed by another player. If you want to watch bad acting in a more abbreviated format just watch a 50 min episode of Netflix's Daredevil.

This year is the first year they have introduced VAR - Video Assisted Replay. Unfortunately, I think, only the referee can ask for it. This has led to some heartburn from the teams who might have wished to have challenges decided by VAR - England's Kane was held back and brought down in the penalty area but the referee did not see it. But who knows, the team asking for VAR with a max limit might be in the next world cup.

Maybe one byproduct is the marked decrease in dramatic acting that might put Hollywood to shame. The referees have had enough of it and I think there might even be penalty if it becomes too much. Games this time are much cleaner.

Good to hear.  May catch a few minutes to see how it's playing out.  :-)

I find the Brazilians to be the biggest drama queens. They get away with it because they are the superstar team. If they start losing, their acting increases exponentially.

On the other hand Germans are the lest likely to dive down and writhe in agony for a show. They usually mean business. The Germany Vs Sweden match should be good.

Completely agree re: Germans.  I found the Americans least likely to be dramatic followed by the Germans.  All business.  On the other hand I found the Italians to be the worst, followed closely by the Brazilians.

LOVE the World Cup.  Watching the superstars duke it out every day is pretty awesome.  Ronaldo, Neymar, Messi (even though he missed a PK), every Belgian player, etc. are so much fun to watch.  If you have Playstation Vue, you can record all of them and hide the scores in your settings, so it doesn't ruin your viewing experience.  As long as you avoid the news or anyone talking about the World Cup, you can enjoy watching it on your cloud-based DVR when you get home from work.  Fast forwarding the halftime show is a bonus.

If that means no time at all - not much can be done.

But if it means unable to be near TV, then you can stream it to your phone. There is the Fox sports way. Or the free IPTV way with many apps that you can download from the net. It is very easy to do that on an android phone.
