  • How long did it take you to break your New Years resolutions?

Sadly, for me my resolution to work less in 2018 lasted all of 2 days.

I've reached FI, but am still working full time. I noted WCI's comment that time, and not money, is the scarce commodity, and I've been inspired by members of this forum such as @PoF, @hatton1, @VagabondMD, and others who have reduced their hours or gone part time.

So, 2018 was going to bring changes, amongst which was that Wednesdays would end at 12.

Clearly i didn't emphasize to my staff that this time I really meant it. Two days after my New Years resolution, there were 6 extra "urgent add-ons" after noon, and I got home after 6 pm on my first Wednesday afternoon off (neuro patients aren't the quickest of medical encounters).

    Ugh!

I suggest that you roll it back and change the resolution to saying "no" (http://thehappyphilosopher.com/the-power-of-no/). You clearly have the desire and mindset to be part time, but have not established the mechanics to make it happen.

Having a contract that spells out that Wednesdays are now "off in the PM" and financially punishes the office/hospital/system for violations might be helpful. My part time arrangement (3 days per week) is contractually defined.

If you can make it to part time (4 1/2 days per week, which is really a modest adjustment when plenty of full time docs work that schedule), by the end of 2018, I will give you full credit.

Planned for a dry January (I usually do every year).

        Bourbon and soda on 1/5.

It's flu season and I'm an ER doctor, what do you want from me?

I am trying to only ever have a drink occasionally on the weekend. Bourbon and diet 7up right now. So tasty.

my resolution was to spend less on things i dont need. in fact i decided to not buy anything i dont absolutely need for an entire year. its a tuf one but stuck to it so far ... taking it one month at a time. did not realise how much temptation there is out there , till i actually started resisting it...

              it took 8 days.

I did 6 workouts in 7 days, on the 8th day actually did two workouts. that night my husband broke his hand and since then I have been 100% responsible for all child care with two very young children. I'm giving myself a pass.

That counts as a workout in my book.
