  • Is it ok for 1/2 the family to fly bizz class while the other half goes to steerage?

Wife prefers paying for business class. And when by herself(conference, trips meeting with friends) I support her 100%. She works/earns. Go for it. But when the family goes, no way, my kids deserve business class. Nor should they get used to it. I barely deserve it and I work full time. Of course when buying the tickets, she always muses out loud about upgrading. So I always say(without honestly trying to make it a hard no) that she and my daughter can upgrade. Us XY mongrels don't need such niceties. But then that's always interpreted as a "No" which it isn't. Is this proposal unreasonable? 3-5 hours being 40 ft separated instead of 1-3 ft separated isn't such a hardship is it?

I’m the cheapest MFer alive but no way is my daughter flying business for free next to my wife while I pay for coach. The kids can fly coach.

Gordon Ramsey and his wife flew business/first and jammed his kids in the rear with the gear. So the kids miss out on a hot towel and cookie; they’ll live.

Some of my most enjoyable flights were in the rear: I brought the FAs large, milk chocolate bars and as a result, I got to stretch my legs in the galley, get some good conversation with nice people with a hard job, and on occasion some left overs from the front.

If your kids don’t deserve business why would you put your daughter up there but not your son…I’d be consistent with the both of them, whatever you do

This gave me a good laugh! Thanks.

I do agree with the idea too. If the kids are old enough to be "alone" Let them rough it on the way to their free vacation. If they are too young to sit alone I would either recommend just the wife take first class and you can hang with the kid(s) or everyone stays together.

Take my words with a grain of salt because I might be the second cheapest MFer alive.

Is it ok for you and your wife to sit in the front seat on car trips while the kids sit in the back seat? What about a bus? I don't see how a plane is a lot different.

I don’t understand the question. Why would it not be ok?

Would not give special treatment to kids based on gender. If one of your kids works and wants to spend their hard earned cash on the upgrade then ok.

Why can't wife fly business and everyone else coach? I'd imagine there will be plenty of family togetherness on the vacation once you arrive.

Cause my son doesn't care, but my daughter has developed my wife's tastes and that pleases my wife. Happy wife, happy... ok whatever.

Are you asking me? I could speculate but can't say for certain. It's probably in the milieu of why she wants me to got shopping with her even though she knows I'm not a fan. Or are you wanting me to ask her this question? Cause then you should just stab me.

Yeahnoo do not ever ask the wife something you think will result in the look. I didn't realize you were in the sit on the bench at the mall holding her purse type of relationship. No critique but that renders my suggestion useless. My better 1/2 would likely relish a solo plane ride.

You prefer a thousand cuts or quick and simple?

My husband often gets upgraded to comfort plus because he's got status on delta due to work travel. I don't care at all. My 5 yo always insists on sitting next to me so my flight is gonna be hard no matter what. And since we have 2 kids we don't all get to sit together anyway. If we were talking first class maybe I'd care?

We fly Southwest. Daughter gets way up in the front since she has the status. She grabs a row she prefers and the wife and I sit where she chooses. If we have 4, I let em figure it out. Boarding lines are a PITA.

I have just started flying enhanced coach and business class (international). We have not recently had an international vacation with kids, and I will cross that bridge if/when I come to it. My inclination is to let the kids stay in coach until they can afford to pay for the upgrade. I will let you y'all know when the time comes.
