  • Nuclear Weapons Near Misses

    https://www.theguardian.com/commenti...he-world-knows

Kind of wish I hadn't gone down this rabbit hole of looking into this. Some things I'd rather be ignorant about. Honestly surprised we are all still here with some of the close calls there have been.

Oh yeah! We almost blew up Arkansas, North Carolina, Spain, Greenland, and many, many others. Some interesting stuff!

I think we can all agree that Arkansas and Greenland have had it coming for quite a while.

Negative: Arkansas is a great state, one of the greatest.

Now, Kansas and Missouri both got it real bad in The Day After, although they are also great states that didn't deserve the "R00skie special"...

I heard a quote for Charlie Munger recently where he described inflation as the biggest long-range danger apart from nuclear war.

We always brush off the nuclear war part, as if it were a figure of speech. But if nuclear weapons exist, they will eventually be used. The universe is amazingly cyclical. Every human civilization has eventual collapsed and our own will too. But the human species has rebuilt. I’m not sure we’ll be able to rebuild if nuclear weapons are used.

Personally I’m pretty sure the human species will survive inflation. But I don’t know if it’ll survive a nuclear war.

Is this on some level a reaction to how close the world is currently to nuclear war? I mean Russia officially said if another country interferes the response will be nuclear strike. Russian nuclear forces are on alert (and im sure all american are too).

This is a reasonably (unclassified) list of BROKEN ARROWS for easy reference.

We learned about these on a tour of missile silos in South Dakota. Amazing how the world has gone from a state where militarily speaking, it's all about defense (the castle age) to where it's all about offense. The only defense against nuclear weapons is MAD, and that only works with logical people. As Alfred said:

Gee, how many are there that we don't know about? What a terrifying thought.

If you find yourself in Arizona, the Titan II Missile Museum is a “blast from the past”, as it were.

And if you travel to Nebraska, be sure to stop at the SAC Museum! https://www.sacmuseum.org/
