J/K. We're family. The better part of us have worked with each for 1-2+ decades. And it's not for the money. Like the soldiers in the field, we man the post together and chit chat during the down times.

Too nice. No guns. And because of Hollywood, 'merica holds an aspirational(misguidedly of course) place in Canada's heart. Except for the "socialized vs no socialized medicine thingy".

If you've ever been in the UP, it's definitely not Canada.

                  • Are the Canadian borders open right now due to Covid? I haven't traveled to Canada recently so I do not know. I know a month ago, my sister tried to go across the border and was denied due to closures for covid.

Open now. There was that trucker nonsense blocking things up for a bit but that has been dealt with.

                      • You need to teach your son to meet and interact with girls locally in person.
Encouraging him to pursue online relationships with people thousands of miles away will cause lasting damage, and you have encouraged this.
This kind of thing is for divorced 50 year olds in remote areas with few other options. Not a young teenager with his whole life ahead of him.
I speak from experience as someone whose primary social outlet during my teenager years was online message boards and whose first relationship was at age 19 with a 17 year old who lived 2 hours away. In retrospect, none of that was healthy, and I did it because it was easier than engaging with my peers in my local community. As he is still young, you have an opportunity to nip this in the bud. Definitely don't feed it.

Thank you for that. This is definitely a concern of mine. His buddies at school are all male. He is on debate team so he does talk to some girls. But I have no idea of the content in which he traffics, nor is he interested in giving me the lowdown. I’m very hands offish. As were my parents. They were clueless up until the point I was introducing them to my fiancée. So I’m certainly not an expert.

                          • Depending on the website, there’s always ads for ‘hot single people in my area’. Maybe he could look into that.
