Recalls are almost all voluntary because the FDA can’t do anything to already approved/cleared drugs/devices. It was interesting to learn how different reality is from public perception.
Power to actually do anything? Likely minimal, if any, at all. But he also acted like it was preposterous that people were saying it was possible it could have been a lab leak. My guess is that he knew that was a reasonable theory despite his words that say otherwise. Words matter from someone in his position.

I would have taken that or a comparable pension years ago. And he gained street cred in my book when he said JC and called that Senator a moron on hot mic.

Especially words spoken to the POTUS. Anyone have access? That is access to power. Word salad indicating no power. When you are the "expert" the CEO listens.
          No doubt about it.

CSRS (which Fauci should be under) has a much more generous pension calculation than the current FERS.

I had to do a govt financial disclosure last year for the first time. It’s much easier to fill out if you only have mutual funds and/or index funds. They are primarily looking for conflicts of interest, I.e. do you have large amounts of stock in one company that may be used for govt contracting etc. that may sway your decision making.

I was curious about Roger Marshall who is the one making a big deal about Fauci here so googled him…So this article states Roger Marshall’s most recent financial disclosure lists a net worth of somewhere between “3.9 and 12.2 million”. What? Talk about vague/inaccurate reporting

i was certainly interested to see a republican so interested in financial disclosures from public figures.

he's got a super stressful job and national politicians have basically made a career out of attacking him for doing it.

i'd say much worse in his position.

i think we've pretty much put the nail in the coffin of couth at this point.

You can substitute LW for RW and the statement is still correct.

Neither am I, but Fauci appears less than admirable.

He worked his career for the federal government. The pay scale.is lower than for private practice. He has a lot of money. He would have more if he had done private practice instead. But then he would.not have had his scientific career.

I assume he keeps working because he loves science and he believes his contributions are important.

I would far rather hear his thoughts on COVID, ot anything else remotely related to medicine, than hear from all the politicians in the world.

They are going after his finances because at least some of them have come to the painful discovery that, when discussing COVID, he knows what he is talking about and they don't. And they know that they look like the morons they are when they try to debate with him when they obviously know nothing.

I am glad we have him.

The politicians have never done anything useful in their lives. Maybe complaining about Fauci keeps them busy. Better that than screwing up the government even more.

I dunno - I feel like financial disclosure of anyone tangentially associated with public policy is pretty important. If we find out he has half his portfolio in Pfizer or Moderna, that would be sketchy.

Collins seems to be cut from the same fabric. Two very powerful individuals were marching to a different tune.
                            Both are still in power.

A single cent in any healthcare stock would be not only sketchy, but blatantly unethical and grounds for dismissal, in my view.

Not to mention what it would do to his public trust.

But can you really sink something that's already on the seabed?

I’m glad that both the right and the left and everyone in between finally agrees that full financial disclosures for all public officials is important!

And since we all think it’s so important, I’m assuming that none of us would ever vote for any public officials who did not provide that disclosure?
