  • Amazon Shenanigans

I will confess my husband and I have an interesting ying and yang when it comes to spending

I purchase my fair share of frivolous cheap items on Amazon (a salt blaster to get rid of bugs flying around? fun for mom and entertains the kiddos!) but I am quite hesitant on the big picture items

My husband on the other hand straddles that fine line between frugal and cheap for most things in life but is oddly willing to splurge on the big picture items like cars and houses

My response the next time he asks “what is in this Amazon box??” will be “well it’s better than doing what this doctor did”

Don’t know what would compel a young doctor to throw away his career like this …

Whoah, that’s a crazy story. Highly talented young surgeon with a gold plated CV, commits silly retail fraud against Amazon, goes to jail, and destroys his life, his family, and his medical career.

Presumably he is a fundamentally dishonest person who, like many long term criminals, thought he was smarter than the system.

Serious question: Will the penal system allow an incarcerated doc to practice medicine on inmates?

That would actually be a really good idea. I'm not sure how keen they'd be with an inmate having a scalpel but I feel like a person in there for fraud would be pretty low risk with one.

          that is wild.

i have a friend in federal law enforcement, you do not want to tangle w/ federal law enforcement.

he was probably some kind of compulsive kleptomaniac. i'm surprised he got away with this as long as he did.

Was he really a talented doc or a fraud in that area as well? Like Dr. Death.

The same reason many people with mental illness do the things they do.

Couldn’t believe he’s not from Florida either.

I'm guessing he did it during residency and figured he wouldn't get caught. Age 29-33 when he did it. There's a reason target and other places need your DL when you return stuff.

I find this inexcusable and feel for the people he defrauded who may have been individuals or small businesses.

I'm amazed that he got away with this.

I live in an apartment complex with multiple buildings with the same unit numbers (aka multiple unit 101s within 100 yards). My packages are often sent to the wrong building and I have had to contact Amazon multiple times to inform them that I never received my package despite it being listed as delivered. Amazon has always sent a second product free of charge with little hesitation, however recently my account has been flagged for concern for fraudulent activity lol. Maybe they think I'm trying to pull a Dr. Riyaz.

Yep, what does he do to the medical record, was he making stuff up? Was he doing unnecessary procedures? Was he claiming to have done more procedures that he really did (insurance fraud)? There is probably more here than the Feds uncovered.

pierre I don't think Dr. Death was a fraud, he just was a horrible surgeon with drug addiction and his residency program never should have graduated him! I think the residency program should be held somewhat responsible, as should his medical school (although if his test scores were high enough... it would be harder to blame the medical school).

Same thing that makes doctors play games with ordering controlled meds for drug-dealing/personal use (even though each pill is tracked and pharmacists will turn you to the feds). Its arrogance, greed, having no respect for laws of this country, along with stupidity.
Seriously, how many cases each year do we see of physicians drug dealing, fraudulently submitting claims, setting up kickback schemes. The government had to create entire fraud task-force for the criminals in our profession.

Does he have a license plate with Dr on it?
