  • Would you endorse soda for a million dollars?

Like on a commercial. "Hello, I'm Doctor Burritos and I endorse soda x as something that is healthy for you." Then cash check for $1 million(yes you have to pay taxes on earnings).

If yes, at what dollar amount wouldn't you publicly endorse it? 10k? 1k?

If no, would it be yes if you weren't or wasn't on track for FIRE?

I love soda. Probably too much. If I could just endorse for taste or how refreshing it is, I could probably do it depending on the exact script. Although, it is questionable whether or not they would want Dr. AR specifically for anything that I'd agree to doing.

Endorsing healthfulness is problematic. I guess if it was something along the lines of a diet soda that tastes great and is healthier for you than a HFCS soda, I could be on board. It would really depend on the specific claim.

If I could include some kind of ‘delicious in moderation’ statement then absolutely. If it’s basically to say it’s healthy then no. If it was for $10M then I’d probably strongly, strongly consider it and end up doing it.

Did his non endorsement help or hurt sales? The publicity from his action was probably more valuable than if he just left it there. Damned if you do, damned if you don’t.

I would 100% endorse a soda for 1million. I would just need to confirm that I'm only required to make factual claims about the product, like "zero calories" and "free of sugar." Though, I'd be willing to state that it "tastes great" even if I didn't feel that way. I do hate soda after all.

Reread your post, if I was required to report that it was "healthy" when all the evidence points to the contrary then I probably would have a lot of trouble doing that. I'd maybe do that for 2 million though If I just had to claim that it was a "healthier" alternative to Coke/Pepsi then I would do it for as little as a couple thousand.

            Good question. Google says:

Coca-Cola shares drop $5 billion after Cristiano Ronaldo's gesture to drink water

Coca-Cola shares dropped from $56.17 to $55.22 after Ronaldo moved two Coke bottles out of view and picked up a bottle of water before Portugal’s match against Hungary on Monday.

But KO is trading at 57 right now so who knows. C6H1206>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>willpower.

Although I would have to consider the impact of the plastic bottles and agua that some companies promote that is basically tap water from another location.
$1m for soda and $1m for bottled water. Not a dime for paper straws. Recycle the bottles. I support the environment!

I think there’s a difference between saying something like Coke is healthy and that you like it. Has anyone in recent memory endorsed Coke as healthy?

Diet soda, maybe, but i would not claim health benefits.

Like beer or wine I occasionally drink it.

I laugh at people who say diet soda is the devil then down a bottle of nice red wine or 2-3 beers.

                  Cold coke zero.

i know it is not great and causes bizarre stuff (insulin resistance, which seems like witchcraft to me from artificial sweeteners with zero calories). It is linked to weight gain and diabetes. the acidity is also bad for teeth.
I could endorse if asked if i like it. 1M, sure.

I would also give the claim:
                  1. zero calories, 2. zero sugar 3. tastes great 4. drink in moderation

People endorse beer and hard alcohol all the time.

I could not lie and say it was healthy. Not for any price…….I hope.

Also, i am not famous or attractive enough to endorse anything and docs are a dime a dozen, quacks on every corner, i bet you could get a doc to do it for 200/hour.

I'd endorse diet mt dew for a lifetime supply. Edit me poorly into doing extreme sports, like skydiving or rock climbing in my white coat.

"healthy for you" - no. One of the advatages of FatFiRE is that I don't need that extra million. And can have some integrity. I can say I love the taste but can't say it is healthy.

I don't drink sodas except once a year or less. On the other hand I have individual stocks of Coke and Pepsi that I got decades ago and won't sell it due to the capital gains tax owed. I never got cigarette stocks ( reflects poorly as a cancer doc).

The more I think about it, I'd probably do it for much less than $1M. I'm far from a public figure and nobody knows who I am so they wouldn't listen anyway. I could do it this afternoon for $100.

Not sure if my younger self with not much net worth would have done it. Maybe, but then sodas are just one component contributing to our obesity epidemic. On the other hand cigarettes contribute 98+% to lung and other cancers and I will never promote it ( side story: When I used to live in England and went to India once a year or so, the most common item requested from UK were high end Dunhill and Benson and Hedges cigarettes from the duty free shops . As a physician, I absolutely refused to buy and bring them in and lost quite a few friends. Oh well).

I consider FatFire for myself to be >$5-8M
