i just read the new post on both WCI and PoF. They are joining up. I think this is great and will provide more content and some lively discussions going forward. I wish them both luck. Running a business is hard especially when you have a day job. All the best.

Let me preface by saying that I have learnt quite a bit on WCI in the past 3 months
That being said, pushing aside all the touchy feely good stuff, this is the definition of cornering the market. Not certain about terms being thrown around how "collaborative" this is - is it? Seems more like completion for capturing eyeballs which now the WCI has done for 99% of this market. Monopoly gives you insane profit and now he has double the content. That's how I see it: A pure business decision.

I find their blogs to be quite different personally and their respective audiences...
WCI is really geared for all docs (and other high income professionals) about getting their financial house in order.
PoF is a retire early blog and not just geared towards docs and the like. I love his stuff but a lot of it doesn't really apply to me (since I'm not trying to retire early or live super frugally to get there).

I think it's a bit of an exaggeration to say this is cornering the market or a monopoly. It's certainly easier to produce content when you have two prolific bloggers. But the content still has to be good enough to keep our attention.
If someone is motivated enough, eloquent enough, and unique enough, they'll soon attract just as many eyeballs on their blog.

Eh kinda hard to do when people already are going to established writers. PoF is a great writer, BETTER than WCI. Hence the acquisition by WCI because he sees opportunity. As I said good for the readers but even better for $$
Really it's an exaggeration ? Name another physician crntric blog right now ... waiting...waiting ...waiting
Point proven

Remember that when we're discussing blogs as businesses that you are the product, not the customer.
Is this a business decision? Yes.
Is this an investment decision? Yes.
Is this going to help readers, POF, advertisers, charities, our business manager, and myself? Yes.
Is there anyone who is going to be hurt by this? Not that I can tell.
Is it a monopoly? Are you kidding? There are 20 more physician financial blogs and the barrier to entry is about $50.Helping those who wear the white coat get a fair shake on Wall Street since 2011

WCI there may be 20 others but you two combined would be 90% traffic. I certainly don't know 20 others and few on here know others. That is my estimation and I am sure I am very close.
It's a business decision and a great one so wouldn't matter if anyone is hurt. Which yes they will be since traffic now directs to a "network" that posts daily. Come on who are we kidding here.

Complete_newbie you are new. You just recently started posting here and your status indicates that you are a resident. There are many physician specific blogs out there. Miss Bonnie MD just posted a comment on this thread for example. I think combing two blogs makes a lot of sense. There is no reason to duplicate the back office stuff. No one is hurt the readership is helped.

There certainly is no monopoly. Not even an oligopoly. What helps them is excellent content, marketing, technical prowess, etc. As WCI mentioned, the barrier to entry is low. As more doctors want out of medicine and read about profits online, there will continue to be a growing list of "competition." I suppose I'm in competition (although no threat to these two for sure!). I think it is brilliant to work together. They will provide nearly daily content, organized themes, and expand to more physicians who badly need to hear the messages.
This was a good post by WCI recently and there have been a ton of new ones even since then:

Guys, I wouldn't waste one more minute on defending your business decision. How silly. Good for you.Erstwhile Dance Theatre of Dayton performer cum bellhop. Carried (many) bags for a lovely and gracious 59 yo Cyd Charisse. (RIP) Hosted epic company parties after Friday night rehearsals.
