Mandate what not to put in your body. Not sure if it should be above 2 yo.
Not so sure it would be feasible politically or legally. Can you imagine losing employment or access to a restaurant or concert because of a weight test? It is a significant public health issue
I know someone who used to have to weigh in at her job at SW airlines. This was in the 80s though. I can’t imagine this happening anywhere now.

Now if your butt can squeeze through the aisle, you are good to go.

My good friend's neice works for Emirates as a flight attendant. They still have strict rules. They have to maintain their weight, their looks and be below a certain age ( I think 30 or 35) to keep the job. Fail in any, and you are let go.

        But the perks are great.

        • Serious questions. How would an anti-obesity health campaign be received in the US? It should be viewed the same as anti-smoking. Also, do you think that the big food industries (fast foods, sodas, etc) are actively pushing against it behind the scenes? As we know sodas are covered by food stamps not because they are healthy, but because those companies lobby congress.

Behind the scenes? They ae front and center, not hiding at all! Big Ag and Big Food are a huge part of the problem. The government, via subsidies on corn and soybean production, is artificially lowering the costs of highly-processed/high calorie food, with predictable results.

And all you have to do is look at the reaction of a significant part of the public to past attempts to tax or limit portion sizes of soda, and to Michelle Obama's attempt to promote healthier school lunches to see how a serious anti-obesity campaign would be received in much of the US.

              Then:
Many things used to happen. Unwritten rules and peer pressures were widespread. Some actually had policies and procedures. What occurred in society was that “minority” or “individual” rights were being violated. Thus, the “individual rights “ were found by the courts to need to be protected. The pendulum swings.

The social enforcement is not always pretty. Mistakes are made and it’s difficult to keep the car in the middle of the road. Thus the terms, right, left or middle of the road. Yielding the right of way is a decision. A lot of road rage out there now. Both the left and right side drivers are mad.
UK roads work well only if you adapt.

I agree with you, but now we have very clear undeniable data regarding 1 specific disease (Covid) where obesity is essentially the number one risk factor (besides severe immunosuppression and extreme of age). It would be interesting to see how a health campaign would be received using Covid and obesity.

Horribly, I fear. We have a significant percentage of the population which just doesn't want to hear the message. (I was going to say "doesn't want to hear the message unless there is an easy fix," but COVID has an easy fix and we STILL have about 30% of the adult population adamant about avoiding it. And totally changing your diet and exercise patterns forever is VASTLY more difficult than getting a vaccine. I'm afraid a lot of people would be willing to die on Soda Hill rather than support any meaningful changes.)

                  • The health campaign would be best done by making economic incentives supporting a healthier lifestyle (not continuing the subsidies mentioned earlier, and we can all imagine other creative ideas). No need to say a word. People will change their behavior for money.

Yes while obesity is definitely associated, I think the number one risk factor is insulin resistance. The death toll in places like India isn't being exacted on people with BMI of 40+.

I just found out that my clinic has $150 monthly snack budget where the girls are just loading up the shelves with processed crap. No way am I raining on this parade.

                      • What do people think of Pfizer vs Moderna vs J and J data?
I'm bummed my elderly parents received Pfizer, although they've been boosted. I hope it's enough.

Special club is reserved for the trifecta of having at least one of each! Bonus points if you have an international variety as well.

                            • So now that the FDA has recommended a booster for healthcare workers, who’s going to get it, who’s waiting for the CDC vote this week, and who’s just waiting?

Note -- This is only for those that received Pfizer.

Our institution has stockpile ready for those who want it.
