It was an enormous study, but the incidence of masking in both groups was very low (13 vs 42%) and their followup (COVID antibodies) was only 40%, which isn't very good. It showed a reduction in the intervention group but an absolute reduction of less than 1%. In a population of 378k that's 3780 less infections.
I agree this is absolutely not the slam dunk its author gushed.

Cam should have gotten vaccinated. Not because of COVID but because he needs to be trying everything he can to get better at football.
Vaccine as a PED, interesting idea.

Nah, it's the microchips-- makes it easier to call an audible.

It was actually Indiana University and not Indiana State University. I'm sure there is some Hoosier who is gonna read that and want you banned for that egregious error.

Yes. Mac is better than Cam. However, the vaccination had to factor in.
They won’t admit it but it hurt Cam because he missed 5 days of practice due to violation of covid protocols.
Sometimes availability is as important as ability.
Cam was out last year against the Chiefs due to covid and be chose to go unvaccinated this year.
            Poor consequential decision.
            Doubt he will play elsewhere.

            • Am I the only one who is getting tired and rolling my eyes when I see such headlines

" EU bans travelers from USA due to rising cases of COVID and high baseline rate"
" This state has 1000 COVID cases compared to this wonderful state that has only 375 cases".

These headlines might have been useful pre-vaccine but now that vaccines are here and more widely used and that we know that COVID will continue to mutate and not go away any time soon and vaccinated people will get mild COVID, the headlines I would like to see are

500 COVID cases in unvaccinated people and 100 ICU admissions and 25 deaths versus 100 COVID cases in vaccinated people with 5 admissions and one death. This will help both vaccinated and unvaccinated people see the impact of COVID on morbidity and mortality rather than just harping on rising number of COVID cases, which is meaningless by itself. Maybe, just maybe the contrast might push a few unvaccinated people to get the shot.

                • How do you all respond when someone seriously askes you for Ivermectin?

One of the few times I am thankful I am wearing a mask to hide some of my facial expressions.

I typically tell them (like with many of the other unproven treatments), that there is no evidence it helps and it is not recommended and I don't prescribe it. These are typically my same patients who will "never" get the vaccine. I try to be blunt, to the point, but nice (while hiding my facial expressions behind my mask as well).

laugh, pretend it couldnt be helped.

remind them the only reason theyre talking about that drug in particular is some rando personality or FB post brought it to their attention, theyre talking about it because someone else was talking about it, nothing more, thats not a good reason.

                        • But seriously, are there any quack doctors actually prescribing ivermectin? It’s bad enough dealing with narcotics, I hope I don’t have to decide whether or not to continue that for hospitalized inpatients just because their PCP is spineless.

Cam isn’t good, and hasn’t been since he left Carolina. I think he’ll play somewhere else this year, he just has to wait out another QB blowing out his ACL.

Nothing wrong with pointing them to FDA guidelines.

                              • Hey has anyone seen a breakthrough COVID in an immunocompromised patient who has gotten a booster. Asking for my brother who is 78 and has non-alchoholic cirrhosis. His wife and son apparently have Covid (mild cold symptoms). His son has tested positive. Everyone is vaccinated and my brother had a booster 2 weeks ago.
