What drives me nuts is that, in the end, it really doesn't matter where the virus came from. Even if it didn't come from the Wuhan lab, there's good reason to take a closer look at virology labs and tighten up safety regulations when it comes to pathogens that may have the ability to jump into the human population. And we know plenty of other viruses in the past HAVE entered the human population via natural spillover (measles, HIV, Ebola, hantaviruses, etc.), so it's a sure bet that at some point that will happen again in the future. What matters now is dealing with the current pandemic more effectively and having workable plans in place so we will be better prepared for the next one.

100%, its not like we havent had sloppy leaks prior to this, just not scrutiny. These places need to be under further watchful eye and far less sloppy.

Exactly. The best argument in favor of a lab origin is China's stonewalling of access to the original data. If China knew their lab work had nothing to do with the pandemic they would be eager to let western scientists in, to draw that conclusion and absolve China of culpability. That they won't suggests to me there are things that went on at that lab, or continue to go on, regarding coronavirus research that they have no desire to share with the world.

So count me as dubious of China's innocence but far from convinced that they "did" anything.

The fact we are even still debating the origin basically 2 years later is a laughingstock and if it originated in literally any other country in the world, we would not still be questioning the cause this far out.

The world is going to handle it how they've always handled China. Maybe act tough in public and make tough comments toward China but not necessarily about the virus. Maybe make stern comments behind the scenes about the virus. In the end, not do anything.

Not only political, there are serious questions of "healthcare experts" intentionally not disclosing and participating in acts that have huge implications on the WHO, CDC, NIH etc. That is not beyond the possibilities based on the actions of individuals and organizations.
It's like removing a corrupt judge and DA. Not chance of a meaningful result with a corrupt system. Any chance depends on a good faith investigation and process.
There seems to have been a ton of questionable choices and incomplete disclosures. So much, we may never know.

Any good recommendations for small toddler sized masks for daycare (small 2 year old kid)? Most toddler masks seem to big.
A High filtration mask would be great - she got sick constantly in daycare, even before covid.

We're going on our first plane flight in a year and a half this weekend and bought 3M 8110S masks for our 8 year old to wear in the airport and on the plane. That's the only "real N95" I've found in a small size. It seems to fit her pretty well. It's probably too big for a 2yo though.

I do want to point out that I live in Alabama. I am vaccinated even boosted, all my friends are vaccinated, and all my family is vaccinated. My county has a high vaccination rate. The only unvaccinated person that I have come across recently was a lexus car salesman. He told me he just did not have time but incredibly a CVS is located across the street and he could walk to it.

I know. Some areas (Huntsville, full of NASA scientists and engineers) are highly vaccinated.

Others (Mobile, AL ) are unfortunately not.

My family is in Mobile. My older brother (surgeon) has had dozens of people call him and ask: “should i get vaccinated “ . He tells them they should have done it weeks ago and should go immediately.


The hospitals in Mobile cancelled elective cases and the ICU is full of unvaccinated patients.

That is not the case in many other places. I know it is complicated and overly politicized on both sides.

I just wish a unified apolitical message could have circulated early. Now it is a mess.

Incidently, I had the J & J. I decided after reading to risk a booster.

I got a moderna booster, just went into walgreens and they had a fridge full of vaccine and no line.

I was a little early, but i care for old sick people and i don’t want to spread it.

Maybe that was the wrong thing to do? Probably selfish. My mother-in-law has CA and is 81 and lives with me.

I don’t want to infect her or my elderly patients.

Might have been the wrong thing to do?

Lots of uncertainty.

Vaccination should Not be optional for teachers, healthcare workers, and nursing home employees etc.

They can work elsewhere.

You don’t have the right to infect others.

This is coming from a fiscally conservative small government guy.

You get a ticket for not wearing a seatbelt and for driving 120 miles per hour.

You are free to eat junk food and destroy your health. Free to smoke MJ in most states now. Free to smoke tobacco, drink alcohol, not exercise, not sleep, watch TV all day and night and spend your money on stupid stuff.

You are not free to endanger others or their children.

My family lives in Alabama and there are a lot of people who did not get vaccinated because..............

We really messed up the messaging. Sorry to beat a dead horse. Just upsets me.

Last Summer and for the last year we should have had more athletes and celebrities asking people to get vaccinated.

Instead we have Cam Newton not vaccinated and Auburns head football coach not vaccinated and many minorities not vaccinated and many right wing republicans not vaccinated.

For many ridiculous reasons.

The hospital I am working in now has a vaccine mandate and it just seems like common sense to me. Sorry for the rant.

yet we should mandate that people give up the right to choose what they do with their own body when it comes to a respiratory illness which may pose a low risk of morbidity or mortality for any one individual ?

the hospital system i work around will be firing people soon who choose not to get vaccinated

the system is already understaffed. the mandate came from Corp c suite out of state

our local system will be overwhelmed not bc we have no beds but bc we have not enough staff to man the beds which will sit unoccupied bc we don’t have the staff
