    Sorry about your friend.

      • NYS is going to require vaccinations across most healthcare settings. I am sure there will be exceptions and shenanigans but maybe it will help.

For Immediate Release: 8/16/2021 GOVERNOR ANDREW M. CUOMO

GOVERNOR CUOMO ANNOUNCES COVID-19 VACCINATION MANDATE FOR HEALTHCARE WORKERS

Department of Health Issues Section 16 Orders to Hospitals and Long-Term Care Facilities Requiring Policy to Ensure All Employees Are Vaccinated

First Dose Required by September 27

Department of Health Authorizes Third Dose for Immunocompromised New Yorkers

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo announced today that all healthcare workers in New York State, including staff at hospitals and long-term care facilities (LTCF), including nursing homes, adult care, and other congregate care settings, will be required to be vaccinated against COVID-19 by Monday, September 27. The State Department of Health will issue Section 16 Orders requiring all hospital, LTCF, and nursing homes to develop and implement a policy mandating employee vaccinations, with limited exceptions for those with religious or medical reasons. To date, 75% of the state's ~450,000 hospital workers, 74% of the state's ~30,000 adult care facility workers, and 68% of the state's ~145,500 nursing home workers have completed their vaccine series. Lt. Governor Kathy Hochul's administration was briefed prior to the announcement.

25% of hospital workers are not vaccinated. amazing.

I am all for freedom, and no fan of Coumo, but why are 25% not vaccinated?

I think the messaging for the vaccines was terrible.

Should have been: 1. safe 2. effective 3. = freedom

You get vaccinated, you are free.

Should have 100% of healthcare workers and 98% of general population over 11.

I don’t have a problem with requiring it for health care workers.

I lean libertarian but these patients are old/sick and employees can go work some place else.

I would have thought the hospitals would already require employees to get vaccinated?

It's not required by most hospitals/nursing homes yet as under EUA and fully FDA approved. Once fully approved, the hammer is coming down across the country. Only fringe hospital systems will not at that point IMO.

            • Biggest risk remains Nursing homes. the staff vaccination rates there are abysmal across the board.

Which, given the fragility and age of their patient population, is absolutely insane.

Ironic if the unvaccinated friend still is fine.
                    Or had previously had Covid.
Or had his(her) own asymptotic reinfection.
Or may not have had anything to do.

Sounds like the “friend” imight be guilty. No investigation or laws or courts needed. I really wonder what punishments should be for the “fullest extent of the recommendations or mandates” will be.

Using court of public opinion for penalties is a slippery slope.

My hospital system, and those in my state, are making no moves to mandate, and have stated that they doubt they will. I'm disappointed and surprised. But I honestly doubt if anywhere in my state will mandate.

It's terrifying for patients, esp the elderly and sick.

My hope is that “mandate” does not become synonymous with “vaccinate”. This perpetual argument “You can’t make me.” is counterproductive. It’s like a contentious divorce. Fighting “just because I can”. Innocent kids and bystanders get damaged. In this case, innocent patients.

                          Yes. Sad.
I wish for once we could have had a very collegial bipartisan promotion.

Something like ALL members of congress, president Biden and former president Trump all come together, smile, be nice and say something like:
“Listen, these vaccines are a miracle. Please take them.” Then Biden could say: “Donald and I don’t agree on everything but we agree on this: GET Vaccinated! “

Then he could say,” listen, Donald should get some credit here. He and his administration did a great job rolling this out. “

Then Trump could say: “Joe has the baton now and he is really working hard to beat this virus. He on top of this and he deserves your support “

Then they could both say: “Its important, get vaccinated!”

Then Morgan Freeman says: “It’s important, get vaccinated, it saves lives. It protects the old and the vulnerable, like me. please, do it for me”

Then big words roll across the screen:

                          ”Its Important: Get Vaccinated!”

Morgan Freeman repeats it one more time.

                          ”Its Important: Get Vaccinated!”

That would have been my message.

Then Samuel Jackson needs to come out asking people to get vaccinated because he is tired of coronavirus on the plane. (Add colorful language in your head).

Unless a very small system, I suspect that most will once more start mandating it.
