It ends with some mild inflation and a perpetual time frame making it irrelevant, same way its always been.
Also, about 80% of this is held by the public, that is, the 40% of a 60/40 portfolio. Do you want them to take your access to bonds away, or stop paying any interest at all on them?
Even the nominal payments are tiny compared to past decades ago. This is a nothing burger promoted by charlatans and politicians to fire up the base, on subjects neither of them understand.
Everyone should do themselves a favor and read a book about monetary policy, Cullen Roche has an excellent one, but his blog is also very good and useful.
Can we raise taxes and boost the economy to keep the train rolling? Maybe
Will we dramatically roll back entitlements? Doubtful
Will interest rates continue to stay near zero for ever? No
Whatever can't go on forever, won't.
Sorry to hijack the Covid thread, I just couldn't resist responding to your economic comment. I will cease commenting on this topic now. I really do hope you're right about all this but I'm very doubtful.

It was a situation where it was basically J & J or wait. Many chose a single J & J shot vs wait until-----.
For those folks the question now is: Booster? If so what kind? Moderna seems the best answer in my mind but I don't honestly know and I don't think anyone does.
As discussed, small trial ongoing:

"Our data indicates that cross using vaccines pose not health risks and increase the effectiveness XXX, XXX". Fill in the blanks seems to be the purpose. Not necessarily any additional knowledge. Please note the question of "booster" and "who needs it" is not answered. Sorry for the rant, Fauci breezed right by that one.
I have a solution, but he never answered the original question. Surely some data exists or is being developed.

Got this today from NYS. Not sure if we are going to get any guidance to pass along to patients who ask.
I feel like I learn about updates from my patients rather than the reverse. They have the time to read/watch the morning news and I am barely up with 2 weeks ago.
STATEMENT FROM THE NEW YORK STATE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH
“As with every emergency use authorization (EUA) of COVID-19 vaccines and subsequent EUA modifications to date, following the CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) deliberations and the CDC’s official recommendation yesterday to allow some people with weakened immune systems to receive a third dose of COVID-19 vaccine, the Health Commissioner immediately convened the State’s Clinical Advisory Task Force.
The Task Force discussed the data presented during the ACIP meeting and reviewed the CDC’s Clinical Considerations to inform NYS COVID-19 vaccination program guidance, which will be forthcoming. The Department will complete this process quickly, as it has in the past.
In the meantime, the Commissioner echoes ACIP’s recommendation that immunocompromised individuals should confer with their physicians regarding the appropriateness and timing for receiving an additional dose of COVID-19 vaccine. Further, the Health Commissioner encourages physicians to proactively reach out to their immunocompromised patients to discuss the benefits of receiving an additional dose.”

In oncology, so I get a ton of vaccine and immune related questions from my patients.

Thoughts?
Thanks.

J&J isn't AZ, obviously, but it's a similar adenovirus-vector platform, so it makes sense that an mRNA booster might be a good idea.

I wonder why the NYS DOH latest statement said immunocompromised should get the same mRNA vaccine as a booster shot, but offered no guidance on those who got the J &J shot- "insufficient data to support use of an additional mRNA Covid 19 vaccine dose after single Janssen Covid 19 vaccination in immunocompromised patients"- If J&J is inferior to start with against Covid, shouldnt they also get a booster shot?
My area had a pretty good mix of the 3 vaccines so people took what they could get at the time.
Now I am seeing a pickup in the J&J because it is the people who really do not want to be vaccinated but "have to" for some reason and choose the 1 shot.

THE LORDOSIS FINAL DEFINITIVE COVID BOOSTER VACCINATION POLL.
Under development? Everything the world needs to know about vaccines, boosters and evidenced based vaccine data. The world needs to know. Vote as often and no qualifications needed. Just an anonymous internet vote. Fair and balanced and as reliable as any other method.

I was just talking to my wife (employment lawyer) about how the booster will affect workplace policy, specifically, will there be a distinction between people who have had booster vs. not, going forward. (They are having enough trouble getting people vaccinated in the first place.) Extrapolate this to Hospitals, cruises, NFL players and stadiums, etc. Will there be a time later this year when "fully vaccinated" means 3 shots? Or will it depend on the timing of the shots? And then throw the JNJ vaccine into the mix. What a policy mess!

I can see a yearly booster like the flu shot coming around the workplace policies, but for now, just getting people vaccinated is key.
ps- just informed my friend who had pfizer in march has a breakthrough case. Constantly hanging out with our one unvaccinated friend, who I have refused to hang out with this whole time. Or maybe caught it walking down the street who knows.
