Yeah, definitely agree with that. It's one of those things that while not true, certainly had a degree of "truthiness" to it. So it's an easy thing for people to sell or talk themselves into believing.

My kid's daycare had a few cases and my twins were exposed last week placing them in quarantine. Over the weekend my 2 year old developed a fever up to 101 but otherwise normal. This has been the fourth time over the past year he had done this and every other time has tested negative. This time it came back positive! By the time we got the results his fever was gone and he is still acting normal.

But that morning I make my usual crappy kerig coffee and thought I reused an old pod because it tasted worse than usual. Then I was surprised when I was changing a diaper to find it full of poop. Normally I can tell what I am getting myself into and have wipes at the ready. So I went around smelling things and I got nothing. I cannot tell the difference between cinnamon or vanilla. I cannot smell rubbing alcohol. So I went for a test and talked to my employer.

Due to my symptoms and close contact they are presuming me positive and I am stuck out of work even if my test comes back negative.

Well it came back positive this morning and I feel much worse. Still cannot smell but I am achy and stuffy. Feels like a bad cold. Nothing horrible but it is obvious I am sick.

I was vaccinated with the Pfizer in December/January.

The funniest thing about this was the contact tracer telling me to isolate the 2 year old from the rest of the family. Lol they obviously do not have kids.

Anyway this sucks because the asymptomatic kids will not get off quarantine until mid August because it is 10 days after the 10 days after the positive test.

I am glad the courses are so mild. And I hope my wife does get it. She had moderna.

Oh I forget to mention that I really do not know if my twins were asymptomatic carriers and gave it to my other son and me or if there was another vector at the daycare we do not know about. So far we have only tested for symptoms but I could test them. But if it isn't going to change anything it seems silly just for curiosity sake.

I hope you have a gentle course. Most of the post vaccination patients we have with Covid have a very mild course.

If it is any consolation, now you won't need a booster and you likely will be robustly immune to the delta strain so you can relax.

Lordosis - sorry to hear it's going through the household. Good thing is breakthrough cases tend to be mild and the anosmia is a good prognosticator of mild course.

This is why masking despite vaccination can be important to minimize risks.

That said, hard to cover the entry point being a 2 year old child unless keeping them at home and that's a bridge too far for vast majority of America.

Sorry that covid bug got the household. Up the dayquil and nyquil.

IIRC your asymptomatic kids can get out of quarantine faster if they take a test. I believe it's 10 days after a positive or 7 days after a negative, although I know those guidelines are always changing.

Also, have you thought about taking a semi-quantitative antibody test? It would be interesting to see your results, give that you had the vaccine and still tested positive. You can get the test at LabCorp for $10.

This seems to be the frustration and weak point in halting the spread. Contact tracing is not 100% and it's only after the fact that a super spreader can be identified. It came from the daycare? Have others from the daycare been infected? Not a challenge by any means. It is difficult to pin the trail down.

After talking it over with my wife we decided that we would test them because it would if positive shorten their quarantine. However if negative it really does not help us at all.

I don't know how useful antibody testing would be now that I am sick with it and have nothing to compare it to.

I fully expected this probably will be a mild course unless it gets way worse than it is right now. But I seem to respond very well to NSAIDs when I take them.

Not being able to smell is more of a pain in the rear end than I would have expected. Hopefully this does not last very long but I've heard people complaining about it for up to 6 months. It would really upset me.

My wife finds it interesting and is now testing me every morning seeing if I can smell the various concentrated oils she uses for baking.

I could not tell the difference between cinnamon and peppermint this morning.

Wife now has 6 non vax-covid patients on her team. All overweight, 1 is seventy and the rest all under 45. The wife of one of the patients doesn't want the vaccine and says he's fine(umm, he's in the hospital on high flow 02) and she's fine. They are enjoying this hospitalvacation lying/sitting there eating can after can of pringles. All the adjacent teams are now starting to load up also. Insanity.
