Not sure a healthcare organization should be the judgement entity.
The stupid head of WHO, that bungled this whole epidemic at the start, now has the temerity to state that vaccine distribution is now a catastrophic moral failure - my foot.

I don't care a rat's behind what he and WHO thinks and luckily so does much of this world.

    • Moderna’s second dose is due 28 days after the first dose with a four-day grace period. Although people vaccinated by the health department will be contacted, we understand the anxiety and offer people the option to contact our call center and check our website a few days ahead of their second dose timeframe regarding new appointment opportunities.
The federal government guarantees second doses will be shipped to providers for everyone who received the initial dose.“

Appointments are shutdown for the month of January. No one knows when they will open up for February or when contact will be made.

Any information on the 4 day grace period? Not so sure the guarantees will be timely.

My thought is there is nothing set in stone that the next dose of a vaccine should be given in 28 +/- 4 days from the first. It is just a booster shot and the later the better. Rather than too soon after the 1st dose. Even 6 or 8 weeks after 1st dose will still be good.

Hopefully the Health Dept was using the delivery commitment as +4.

Side note: BIL being tubed and going into ICU. The same one that wanted to stopover to visit his mom on Christmas Day. I hear about 7 are positive from brief family visits. This thing isn’t close to over.Vaccine available is not the same as vaccinated. Seems overconfidence will meet reality.

Not looking for sympathy. Immediate family is fine. Just trying to make sure the spouse and I get shot #2. The only way to handle the extended family is chuckle. Morbid, buy reality. It is what it is.

Just a dose of reality. Pisses me off with the organizational politics. The Gov. of West Virginia explained how they led the nation. Stop relying on the hospitals. Give them what they will inject. If you want to prioritize, you better do it fast. 1A will have to wait unless they are standing in line. Every hospital and pharmacy and clinic we could find was told to use every vaccine as fast as possible. Follow the priority, but don't slow it down. It was like a graduation. Sure you can go to the front of the line but the line is moving. Too many are worried about precision rather than vaccinating.

The extended family was making poor decisions, it was not due to priorities. Poor judgement is

Even so, I still want to extend my wishes to you for a quick recovery for everyone affected in your extended family.

                • These interstate travel restrictions are absurd. There is always a fair amount of interstate travel going on between different states as many live in one state and work in another so to expect that the virus can be somehow isolated into one state with travel restrictions does not make sense. And with the virus numbers surging in every state, it makes even less sense. Why do states require viral testing before entering when they already have the virus present? It seems like a waste of testing to me. The only states where it makes sense to pre-test and quarantine are Hawaii and Alaska. With any other state in the mainland, there is too much interstate commerce and travel for any restrictions to have any meaningful effect. I also wish that they would come out with exceptions for people who have been vaccinated already as well. I know that they don't have evidence that vaccinated people can't transmit disease, but what other viral illness can you get a vaccine to, become immune, and still transmit the virus? It seems to me that asking people who have been vaccinated to test before traveling is just wasting testing supplies.

                  • Rotavirus can be transmitted by asymptomatic and previously vaccinated kids. Mumps probably can as well

No more absurd than eliminating travel restrictions from Europe but not China. Restrictions on international travel with pre-testing, like Hawaii and Alaska, actually make sense. (I agree that interstate restrictions are ostensibly useless.)

And some of those restrictions placed by some states are plain stupid.

Maryland requires negative test or quarantine but excludes residents of neighboring states including WV, Virginia and Delaware - all of whom have no restriction. People in those states can easily get COVID from out of state visitors and pass it on to the residents of Maryland without facing any consequences. Yet if a vaccinated SC resident goes to Maryland after 2 vaccine shots and 2 weeks later but had not taken the PCR test, he could face up to a year in prison / $5000 fine.

Some legislators have nothing up there on the top.

Is there any case report of a vaccinated person transmitting the virus 2 weeks after the 2nd dose?

                            • so basically we have only administered half the vaccines that we have. This isn’t a supply issue, it’s an incompetence issue. Epic fail.

Where did you find those numbers? I thought we were doing worse here in NY. But there is not very strong competition it seems.
