  • Yeah I’m waiting for a plaid model s+ or roadster in a few years. Wife says hard no on cybertruck (I wonder if she’ll change her mind if it looks ok in person).

Really want to see how the no stalk/yoke thing works. If it actually makes sense I’m sure you can get used to it rather quickly like regenerative braking but who knows.

Then again maybe in a few years lucid will be the car to have or Apple car. Time will tell!

I think the interior looks cool but I'm not sure about function and stalkless design. I am not usually a fan of touch screen controls.
personally i would pass. still old cells unless you are going plaid+, and like you said control system that i dont see aging well....

      • Definitely not going to rush into purchase. Long range seems plenty fast to me so wasn't looking at plaid+ (or plaid).

Irony of aging. When I didn't have money, there were so many cars that I craved. Now nothing seems worth it. Maybe lucid will be appealing but I worry about charging network.

im assuming it uses EA. while its not SC lvl yet, its definitely expanding/improving.
EV cannonball record was set by @outofspec with taycan and EA, and it was a miserable experience but faster and in winter.

do you road trip like every other week? otherwise i wouldnt even given it a second thought.

          • I haven't heard anything about the Roadster in a while so I was looking around and apparent they're planning on a special package with cold gas thruster system which would help the car accelerate and turn along with allowing the car to fly 'a little' in 'short hops'. I don't know anything further about this system but isn't your wheels coming off the ground while in motion and then landing back on the ground a pretty good precursor for losing control?

            • Yeah roadster got postponed again until 2022 now.

talking about the ‘spacex’ package where the back seat gets replaced with compressed air spacex tank with thrusters.

cars can only accelerate so fast because of tires/friction/traction, but with a rocket thruster it solves that problem. Doesn’t seem safe at all or legal so who knows.

The Tesla charging network is definitely more robust, plentiful, reliable compared to anyone else for now. My goal is to get a 500-600 mile vehicle and road trip around the country and see all the national parks.

I'm pretty sure charging network would not really be an issue for me. Probably just the anxiety of leaving ICE and knowing you can get fuel almost anywhere .

                • if you don't travel far and can charge at home, then you really don't need the charging network as you just charge in your garage. Once you get used to plugging in your car when you get home, it's so nice not having to pay attention to a gas gauge or visit a gas station

Vending machines or drones or amazon? Maybe on your phone, scratch offs. The options are endless.

                      • I think I've mentioned it before, but a side effect of buying a $45k car has been saving around $50 I would've spent in lotto tickets so far. I did run inside when my wife was driving her dino car and stopped to get gas to lose $4 when the jackpots were $800M.

                          • So almost 2 years of ownership and 38k miles of my model 3 I’ve had to do my first maintenance on the car aside from tire rotations. The car let me know I had to fill up my windshield washing fluid. It holds almost a gallon if anyone else didn’t know.

Also fsd beta continues to look impressive. Apparently Elon thinks they can do pure vision and not even use the radar sensors anymore?

                            • I've had my model 3 for closing in on 3 years. No real issues so far. We've gone on several vacations in the 3 years and rented many cars including 2021 BMW 5 series and I still think the model 3 is the easier car to drive. it is effortless to just get in and start driving. the maps and screen is very intuitive (once you know how it is set up) and charging is not a general issue.

for day to day stuff - priceless to never have to think about gas. come home, plug in if I want or not. it will be good for several days if I forget to plug it in. and if I need to go on long trip, stop by the supercharger if not already charged high.

the FSD has gotten better each time. I'm excited they will be releasing the 'beta version of FSD' next week.

Two dead. Some might make a mistake and decide to test Elon’s bravado. Or maybe the investigation will find someone was actually in the drivers seat.

Not sure if the states should actually be regulating car safety.
