Depends on color options and your location with the way Tesla manufacturers and distributes cars. With Fremont shut down they’re going to be slightly behind. With that said there were reports of people ordering certain colors and getting them 3 weeks later before everything closed. Other reports are that people are still waiting.Comment

so today marks owning my dual motor, non-performance, model 3 for 1 year now.
22698 miles, 5107 kWh used, lifetime efficiency of 225 wh/mi. I usually average 200 wh/mi on work commutes during the summer and 220 wh/mi during the winter. 3 separate road trips went up to 270 wh/mi (total of 4300 miles). 100% charge was advertised at 310 miles new, and now 299 miles or around 3.5% degradation which has been steady for months now.
pros:- saved a lot of CO2 emissions so far and will continue to do so for the rest of owning the car (electricity in my area comes from nuclear, natural gas, hydroelectric I think). I really want to get solar but not worth it for right now.
- hard to imagine but way more fun to drive than a v6 toyota highlander.
- had to have tesla come out to my house a couple of times at no charge to fix small issues. that's nice that they come to me and I don't have to go anywhere to get something minor on the car fixed. they replaced a tail light due to condensation and fixed a corner of my bumper where it wasn't aligned properly (by 5mm or so) due to not being clipped in right
- car keeps getting better with software updates. every update is like a mini Christmas to see what gets updated. one of the updates made the car accelerate quicker
- saved money in operating costs. I probably spent $300 charging at home (otherwise charged for free with supercharging credits and free charging downtown) and the $50 in tire rotations in the year. compared to my old car, that would've been around $2100 in gas, $240 in oil changes.
- the basic autopilot on road trips is a lifesaver. on the road trips, it did probably 80-90% of the driving. stop and go traffic is relaxing now. didn't have to put my hand on the wheel for 20 minutes during one area of the interstate, darn rubberneckers
- I basically never have to stop at gas stations. occasionally have to go to one during a road trip for restroom breaks or drinks. on a side note I've also saved tens of dollars from not buying lotto tickets anymore
- regenerative braking and 1 pedal driving is amazing. with the relatively new hold mode, I probably use the brake pedal a handful of times a week.
cons:- fit and finish were a small problem. a couple of areas that aren't visible on a regular basis were missing some paint. like a tiny part under the hood. some bumper paint flaked off. these were tiny like 1-2mm or so but should be better and I think has improved. I just touched these areas up myself with $15 touch up paint and you can't tell the difference.
- one of my tail lights had condensation so it had to be replaced. also mentioned above I didn't notice a part of my bumper stuck out like 5mm more than the other side until last month. turns out it wasn't clipped in one area so they worked the bumper a bit and clipped it back in. looks fine now.
- when on road trips, you're forced to stop at certain areas. we stopped more than required as the SO has a bladder the size of a pea it seems like. anyways most trips are alternating driving 2.5 hours and charging for 20 minutes. once at my destination, I trickle charged from a 120v at the house I was staying at which helped, but ended up going to a supercharger near the area to top off once each of those trips.
- if your goal is to get from point a to b as fast as possible on a road trip, driving the tesla added maybe 30 minutes to an hour to a 700 mile trip. (in the end did feel more refreshed on arrival though)
overall I love the car still and happy I made the transition to EVs. can't imagine buying another ICE car again. if I had to do it again now, I'd probably get a model y for my needs and driving style. who knows, if TSLA keeps going up, I may get a new roadster next if it ever gets produced lolComment

Anyone have thoughts on purchasing a used Tesla? Like 2017 or later? They're still pretty expensive (35k+).

One sibling is encouraging me to buy a Tesla, no specific model. I think just so they can drive it.$1 saved = >$1 earned. ✓Comment

Kamban Thanks for the info. I'll definitely PM you before (or if) I decide to make the plunge. All the EV/hybrid market is going to extend into the area where it would be hard to justify price because our commutes are short (10 miles round trip per day from where the new house). My 10 year old Accord also only has 65k miles on it...Comment

Picking up model y tomorrow and saying goodbye to our 2009 Infiniti G37 . I'm going to kiss it....well until I drive the Y off the lot...so sad. I really do love my G37 but been waiting so long a for a crossover EV that's under 100k.
Next round. Cybertruck replacing out 2004 Odyssey....that will be a very sad-happy day tooComment

We may finally cave in to the Tesla for my wife's car after shunning it for years. She's going to be needing a car soon and wants an eco-friendly option. EV, PHEV or hybrid. She also wants something stylish. We've been eyeing toyota/lexus hybrids and phevs. I was also thinking of something cheap and used for a few years to wait for more EV offerings to come to market, but from what little I've read, nothing really seems to grab my attention that's worth waiting for let alone be assuredly available in the US. Maybe I missed something. At $38k, the model 3 seems like you get a lot of car for your money even w/o the tax incentives. The issues others have brought up is still a concern of mine. This is a car I'd hope to last 10+yrs. What do you all think? Should we wait a few years? What looks like it has potential? Are the quality issues over-stated?Comment

Model 3 is pretty nailed down at this point. I'd buy with zero hesitations. ImI bought mine in 2018. While there were a few build imperfections, it's easily the best car I've had.
We're going to but a model Y or model X in the next year, but waiting to see what happens with a model X refresh (change it to normal doors and take my money please!) or to let the model Y manufacturing process mature a little.Comment

Pretty much all other manufacture is just paying lip service to pure EV and only mumbling some grandiose offerings to satisfy EPA regulators. They would rather concentrate on their money makers gasoline engines and not dump a lot of money into EV research. My thoughts on it last year were
Toyota - only wants hybrids. Doing hydrogen fuel cell to satisfy regulators. And that is a non starter for me.
Jaguar - unreliable car company
Volkswagen - they are well known for electrical issues in all their vehicles. And now they have software problems. After their Dieselgate fiasco, I would not trust that company
Mercedes - not sure what they will offer and when.
BMW - I saw my friend's EV. Poor range. And he wanted to dump it and buy a Model 3
Audi - The furthest along. Luxury, but much more expensive and poor range.
That left me with the Model-3. After driving it I was hooked. It is not a perfect car by any means, but for 38K it is a great car. In August I would have had it for 1 year. Easily the most fun car I have had. I don't like driving the ponderous Acura SUV at all after using the M3. And this is supposed to be my wife's car!!.
My take - If short commutes, get the SR+. If you do longer trips, try and get the Model Y long range if you can wait a few months or a year to get it.
