  • Where I am and a farewell.

It is difficult to be brief when there is much to say. I will be short though since writing is not my forte.

This forum has been great to learn from the regulars, WCI himself, and WCI has been one of the few people I know that responds to PMs in earnest. Since I do not frequent the forums or website nowadays anymore I figured I’d leave a post of where I am now as a general forum post as I have received a few PMs.

And as sort of a farewell (maybe I’ll swing by here and there but regular postings I don’t think will be happening)

In the past 2-3 years I have gone on an entrepreneurial journey while managing being a new attending. It has been stressful, but more so an incredible growth experience. Just as a glimpse these are the things I am doing/businesses:

    1. Commercial real estate with 2 other partners. Representative example is recently have developed a project on bought land and will be flipping it for 1.4 million profit to be shared with partners. It is a strip center with good anchor. Others include gas station led shopping center, another is office building and we just started on a hotel project.

    2. Lending business: this has been incredible. I’ll just say that there is never a shortage of good people wanting money. Think my own lending club.

    3. Owning 3 retail businesses with an operating partner.

    4. Two ecommerce sites. One better than the other but profitable. Again with an operating partner.

    5. Supporting wife’s thriving service and product business (beauty business).

What has really made it hard to manage all of this is now two young kids, while staying in shape via physical activity/exercise.

I am mentioning all of this not as humble brag but I guess as inspiration for others that it is possible to branch out of medicine if you work hard while "young" (I'm 36). All of this requires quite a bit of effort and is not “passive”. I do want to cut down something and that probably means going part time in medicine. I also want to add some regular volunteering at church soon. Oh and romance takes effort! so I want to focus on keep wifey happy as well.

I still remain beginner level on taxes though I am improving (best way is to self do it but I use CPA …which retards hard learning but getting there) and not an expert on market investments. I hope to keep learning from helpful posters here. It has been great to have you guys as resource. Pardon my affront in the past; I’m much mellower now J

    Stay the course.

Wow - best of luck with your multiple endeavors. Take time for yourself and wifey and don't let up on the romance effort! Little things mean a lot to a woman. And keep us posted when you have a few spare minutes. Take care and God bless.

                    Be careful of hubris.
I thought about going part-time in 2011. That was before I lost 1M, then another 1M.
I even thought about leaving medicine in residency when I made my first 1M, and that is embarrassing when I think back on it.
Maybe you have made it. Likely, setbacks are waiting for you. I think it is part of the education of an investor.

Wow, I didn't realize how unproductive I was until I read this, lol.  Would love to learn how to do just one of the things you're currently doing.  You should start a series of posts explaining details of how you got into these alternative investments.

Yeah, I've said the same thing a couple times.

Then again...I spent a good portion of the day fishing (and catching a big one!) with my kid, then walking the dog, then the last 2.5 hrs reading through WCI forum (and pondering the irony that some of the threads I ONLY click on AFTER they've been closed), and going through the reading list from Jim, Leif, and Harry (Sit).

IOW, I've had a satisfyingly unproductive day and can't really see things changing for the better if I take on new work or suddenly get motivated!

I’m curious as to why you feel the need to announce this; it’s an anonymous Internet forum... if you are going to stop posting then just stop posting. Nobody cares.

Why not instead give some insight into your multiple successful ventures?

Sure seems like a blatant humble brag to me.

As an aside I thought you were an intern like 2 years ago?

I would imagine the OP feels a connection to people on forum, semi/fully anonymous though it may be.  I do as well.

You cared enough to reply with an unnecessarily rude response, so perhaps ask yourself why you bothered to read the entire original post or reply at all if you don't care.

Perhaps you wanted to be heard and put someone else down in order to elevate your own standing on this anonymous forum.

Nobody would care if I never posted again. Likely not a single person would notice. I have the self-awareness to realize that.
