If two people are equal in all other facets, sure give it to the person who had a harder road to get there. I think race is an extremely poor proxy for measuring this.

Colin Powells kid is better off than vast majorities of white or Asian people. These things should be treated on a case by case basis and sweeping generalizations about a whole race should not be made. It's lazy.

The only comment I will make is that I applied to a number of quality undergraduate schools, and got into all but one.

I am comforted to know that Harvard didn't reject me on merit alone, but also on the lack of a relative with a Harvard Degree or open checkbook.

While on the surface Affirmative Action seems like an idea with good enough intentions, I think the consequences are bad. I'm not a supporter of it.

I agree that it almost never ends well.

All I can say is that I experienced reverse discrimination back home. I found that in USA it was called by a different name, affirmative action.

The only diversity I respect is economic.  Show me the applicants'   household 1040 return at age 10.

Using the same logic, it is not my fault that I was smarter, able to study harder and get a higher GPA and higher SAT score than you.
