  • Can’t do a back door Roth?

    According to Reddit.. I’ve never heard of this before. I thought anyone could do a backdoor Roth as long as they had $6000+ in earned income.

    They can still do it but they would have to deal with the pro-rata rule. Only those over the Roth IRA income limits have to do the backdoor. Anyone that is eligible for a Roth can technically do a backdoor Roth but it may just be an extra step. Doing a prophylactic backdoor Roth is mainly for those whose income may go up a lot towards the end of the year (i.e. going from resident to attending mid year).

        Now I regret my 50/50 strategy of Roth/traditional. Been doing that since 2014…
