  • funds taxed by capital gains included in income?

    Complete noob here.

My spouse and I are w2 employed. I liquidated some single stock equities in order to put a down payment on a home. Does the capital gains tax bracket percentage I owe calculated by our W2 income, or do the limits of those tax brackets include what was taken out and liquidated from the equities. In other words, Let's say combined income is 200 but took out 400 for example-- how does this get taxed. And in general, do capital gains from home sale, brokerage accounts etc count towards adjusted gross income? thanks all, this forum is extremely helpful.
