My wife and I have been filing our taxes Married Filing Seperate MFS in order to optimize PSLF. Now that this was successful, we would like to amend our 2018, 2019 tax returns to change from MFS to MFJ. I am trying to figure out if we have to fill out two 1040-X forms or one. And if just one, whose taxes do we apply it to? I assume we need to do 2, but I can't figure it out with online information. Any help would be appreciated, thank you so much.

You will need to file one joint return but include both copies of the original returns when filing with the IRS. I think you can still efile this. Note that after this change, you will not be eligible to go back to MFS.Our passion is protecting clients and others from predatory and ignorant advisors.
