  • General rule for part-year resident deduction allocation for a 1099?

I moved from a state with an income tax to a state without one. I received 1099 income from both states and opened up a solo 401k to offset some of this income. Lets say I made 10k in state A with no income tax and 5k from state B with income tax and put 5k in my solo 401k. Can I attribute all 5k of my pre-tax contribution to state B and none to state A or am I only able to attribute 1/3 of my contribution to state B?

you need to read the rules from state B. it's very specific. if you name the state someone might be able to better assist.
