My wife was just received notice she will be awarded 100K (50K per year) for working for the state of Maryland over the next 2 years.
We have a loan out there with Navient at roughly 350K at 7%. I'd like to look at refinancing the loan to a better rate.
Does anyone have an advice on refinancing while you're receiving a SLRP benefit?
Can we re-fi the whole 350K and still receive the 100K award? Or do we risk loosing the 100K award if we re-fi?
If we can loose it, can we re-fi 250K of the loan, leaving the 100K behind with Navient that will be paid off by the award in two years?
I don't want to upset the apple cart, but I don't want to be paying 7% on the other 250K we owe, unless we have to.
