Yes FICA, but people are really arguing that FICA taxes will increase to specifically offset the part of the deficit that would come from cancelling some student loans? I think that is a giant reach. Do FICA taxes ever change, and if so when have they changed for lower earners?

Congress (both sides and 100’s of special interests) are legislating based on campaign funds and votes to remain in power. Some votes cost less than others.

Acts of legislatures are supposed to make the rules. The executive branch enforce them and the judicial branch apply all laws equally.

My only real point is that I simply disagree that "spending" x amount of money, whether it be through loan forgiveness or actual spending, necessarily results in a concomitant increase in taxes, and I definitely disagree that if there was an increase in taxes to make up for it it's somehow going to hit people who didn't go to college/grad school and on average make less money. Can someone give me an example of this happening, ever?

At enough spending it definitely does, but i think its hard to say what inflation would or wouldn't be given certain spending without a crystal ball. People were expecting bad inflation after the GFC and it didn't happen, but it did after covid... but im not convinced it wouldve turned out better if we didnt do stimulus that also increased inflationary pressures

White house/congress will be busy trying to find possible solutions SCOTUS decision and student loans will inevitably get kicked down the road... as long as the 0%/no payments continue ....

I would think the FBI investigation which was announced would yield results.

And by the way, the opposite parties are now united. Both are the most extremist groups and threats to the country. The reality is lost. Please provide guidance to the political narratives that are being floated. Including the one that is not in charge of "disinformation".

Everyone of this has been floated. We will see what sticks. No intent on solutions. Congress will reach its summer recess and see which balloon floated the highest.
Congress is not in a mood and has not been for quite awhile. Every one of this has been tried. I wonder what is next.

I’m hindsight, it would have likely turned out better from an economic standpoint without the lockdowns.
