Yes FICA, but people are really arguing that FICA taxes will increase to specifically offset the part of the deficit that would come from cancelling some student loans? I think that is a giant reach. Do FICA taxes ever change, and if so when have they changed for lower earners?

“And of course I agree I'd rather see some sort of sustainable change going forward. But I think that would require an act of congress and as you know it's hard to see them getting along to do basically anything, so this is what we end up with.”

You hit the nail with a sledgehammer. Well done.
Congress (both sides and 100’s of special interests) are legislating based on campaign funds and votes to remain in power. Some votes cost less than others.

Acts of legislatures are supposed to make the rules. The executive branch enforce them and the judicial branch apply all laws equally.

Can someone give me an example of this happening, ever?
this argument only makes sense if you don't think that gov money printing - bc of course gov spending isn't covered by taxes - doesn't contribute to inflation, which hurts people with lower income more

At enough spending it definitely does, but i think its hard to say what inflation would or wouldn't be given certain spending without a crystal ball. People were expecting bad inflation after the GFC and it didn't happen, but it did after covid... but im not convinced it wouldve turned out better if we didnt do stimulus that also increased inflationary pressures

I think the bombshell roe/wade will delay news on student loans.
White house/congress will be busy trying to find possible solutions SCOTUS decision and student loans will inevitably get kicked down the road... as long as the 0%/no payments continue ....

We are in a period of trial balloons. Throw crap up and see if it floats. SCOTUS stuff could be solved quickly , hailed as a hero and condemned. Short life cycle might fizzle out in Congress. On to the next talking point. Who knows, some of those “terrorist parents” at school board meetings” could be charged? It’s the season for dirty tricks.
Probably too soon for Cuomo to make a comeback. Searching for talking points. Not solutions.

I would think the FBI investigation which was announced would yield results.
”“Coordination and partnership with local law enforcement is critical to implementing these measures for the benefit of our nation’s nearly 14,000 public school districts,” Garland wrote. “To this end, I am directing the Federal Bureau of Investigation, working with each United States Attorney, to convene meetings with federal, state, local, Tribal, and territorial leaders in each federal judicial district within 30 days of the issuance of this memorandum.”

No particular view about Supreme Court leak or doxing Justices and protests homes. I bring these up not for debate. Simply actually efforts to generate “talking points”

And by the way, the opposite parties are now united. Both are the most extremist groups and threats to the country. The reality is lost. Please provide guidance to the political narratives that are being floated. Including the one that is not in charge of "disinformation".

If any politicians or current cabinet members or whatever are your patients, please do a better job! It is really ridiculous. I agree. Please talk to the Director of the FBI. He still says parents are dangerous.

Yeah, I'm aware of current events...

What does this have to do with student loans and roe/wade derailing/delaying news on student loans? Cuomo?? FBI?? Parent terrorists? DOJ???

Sounds like Tim just needed an outlet to vent...but c'mon slippery slope much?

"Searching for talking points. Not solutions." Thats exactly what gov & politics has been and will always be...it thrives on bureaucracy & side railing.

This is only trial balloons for campaigns.

Everyone of this has been floated. We will see what sticks. No intent on solutions. Congress will reach its summer recess and see which balloon floated the highest.
Congress is not in a mood and has not been for quite awhile. Every one of this has been tried. I wonder what is next.

This was not at all clear from your “psychotic” comment.

I’m hindsight, it would have likely turned out better from an economic standpoint without the lockdowns.

And student loans is a talking point. Which is relevant. One of many. I have no doubt more will come. Actually, from both parties. Some are more absurd that others.
