  • Student loan refinance rates

I am a fellow with the bulk of my loans at 6.8%.  Im looking to refinance with SofI or Common bond and was wondering what terms and interest rates they are offering right now for fixed rate and variable rates.

Is there any clear winner now for companies offering the best terms?

I take it you're going into private practice then? (If doing academics don't refinance and do PSLF, of course!)

Personally, I'd wait a few months into the new attending job before refinancing. Moving and the like are expensive, and that lag time before your first attending paycheck feels long.

Look into earnest as well, they have everything set up very simple and youre able to basically customize your rate/term to what fits you best. After I switched from SoFi to them for a better rate I couldnt be happier, especially with the added benefit of being able to pay every 2 wks instead (faster paydown) and change from variable to fixed, etc...on a whim. Very flexible.

I just got 2.25% from College Ave after linking from Credible.  It will save me $4000 so I went for it.

2.25%? Thats a bit ridiculous, I think I will check them out. What were your terms?

5 year variable rate.  It's really 2.5% but you get 0.25% off for setting up automatic repayment.  Kinda makes me wish I would have refinanced my 6.8% one sooner.  The biggest challenge was finding the Nelnet payoff amount - I ended up having to call in and they say it will take 3-5 business days to e-mail it to me! Great Lakes was much easier.

If you don't have an attending contract, expect a fixed rate around 5%. They probably won't offer you a variable rate. Sorry, that's the way it is until contract in hand.

4.6% fixed 10 years with SoFi (also a convert from Nelnet who sucked).  Common Bond was off from them and Earnest by like an entire 1% higher.  I tried DRB, but their arcane application experience made me give up on them and Link Capital was not taking apps at the time.  Anyone know if they are back up?

4.5% with DRB.  SoFi had higher rate for me....apply to all and take the lowest!

Have a 3.22% variable at Earnest, but when I used the service talked about I got some terrible rates, idk was strange.
