  • Federal student loan freeze

What are the chances the current student loan payment/interest freeze is extended past September?

    100% in my opinion.

It'll most likely be extended till March; especially with the surge we are about to have with the Delta variant.
Two years of no payments which count towards the PSLF

To be fair, the 'huge surge' will always be right around the corner for the foreseeable future.

I'm gonna guess 50/50 because I have no clue and think it really could go either way. If I were a bettin' man, I wouldn't bet money either way at this point.

Edit - if you asked me 2 months ago I probably would have said 25(no extension)/75 so it's trending in the right direction (for me!)

I think it's going to be a while until interest starts up again. The loan servicers are in total disarray right now and unlikely to be able to process a return to repayments in 2021 and 2022 is an election year

                    what's your point, though?

On a side note, we (as an entire world) will reach heard immunity in 1-2 more years - by infection and by vaccines combined.

My point is that there will always be various variants that will always be used by some people to help further things they want, the government more specifically. Regarding this thread, I imagine the government will continue to use the pandemic for the student loan freeze and also for possibly broader student loan forgiveness.

They let the eviction ban expire.
Student loan freeze is even easier to let expire.

The point is that there is absolutely no benefit due to the pandemic. Not one school or business is closed. There is a process if one is unemployed. This is now purely political, not related to any pandemic caused shortfall of income to repay loans. Zero pandemic relief.
Free money, that is all it is. Time to move on.

But the eviction ban required congress to extend. Student loan freeze can be extended by executive order.

I personally have bought a frame TV and an OLED because of the freeze. Sure other people are doing the same.

                              also some stocks
