  • Over-contributed to HSA for 2018

2018 was the first year I have encountered or used an HSA for my family, so I was not aware that the $1,000 my employer contributed counted towards MY contribution limit of $6,900. I had been steadily contributing 265.38 x 26 paychecks (=$6,899.88) to maximize my tax incentivized accounts. At this point, my HSA shows $7,369.12 being contributed due to the help from my employer.

Any advice or tips on how to fix this mistake? Thank you.

Update: Contacted HealthEquity and will be filling out their Return of mistaken HSA contribution form per the representative I spoke with on the phone, which should correct my contribution to $6,900 for 2018.
