  • 403b and 401k

I currently work for hospital A and have a 403b and 457 which are maxed out at the 18.5k. I started moonlighting at hospital B which offers a 401k. What is the most I can contribute to this 401k? My primary and secondary hospital are in strategic partnership but neither owns the other yet. Does this affect how much I can contribute?

I was trying to read this WCI article and got a little lost in the sauce:

you get 18.5K total for employee contributions for 403/401. so zero.

however you say moonlighting....is this a solo 401k you set up?

      No it's a hospital 401k. I guess they're treating us as a part time employee so we get a w2 instead of a 1099.

If you fund a 457b to the $18,500 for half a year, then switch jobs, can you then fund a 401k at the new job to the $18,500 limit?

you don't even have to switch jobs. 457b has a separate limit for contributions

so you can contribute $18,500 salary deferral to a 457b, and at the same time $18,500 salary deferral across other plans (401k, 403b, SIMPLE)

              see: https://www.irs.gov/retirement-plans/how-much-salary-can-you-defer-if-youre-eligible-for-more-than-one-retirement-plan
