  • year end bonus

At the end of the year, my wife's practices looks at the income (profit) in excess of paid out salary and out a portion $10,000 via payroll in 2017 and a portion via check $25,000 (no taxes, etc. taken out and paid the beginning of the next year 2018. Why might they do this? Submitted the question to the office manager as I do our taxes but haven't got an answer yet. (my wife is a partner in the practice)

Maybe they are trying to be nice with the new tax laws. I'd rather constructively receive the whole thing in 2018.

She needs to ask the practice's CPA - as a partner, she should have full access to all files and notes of conversations. It probably has to do with some kind of tax planning but someone had to have advice to make that decision. No use speculating.
