  • TSP rollovers

I saw an email from TSP this morning about their accepting rollovers from IRA and 401k accounts. I know my IRA accounts need to be empty in order to make my backdoor Roth contributions work--would the TSP be a place to park these funds if I don't have a 401k to roll them into?

Yes you can rollover your IRA into TSP. I did it years ago following the directions on the TSP website, no issues.

While the TSP has its own tax code provisions. It is virtually the same as a 401k.

To prevent Backdoor Roth tax liability, any pre-tax balances and only the pre-tax balances in all traditional SEP and SIMPLE IRA accounts can be rolled over to 401k (TSP) 403b and 457b accounts.
