  • Roth 403b Contribution if MFS

If my employer offers a 403b plan that allows Roth contributions, can I make Roth contributions if I file taxes as MFS? I know that MFS generally disqualifies you from Roth IRA contributions, but I can't find information on if MFS also disqualifies you from Roth 403b contributions.

    Thanks in advance!

Totally different rules than Roth IRA. Contribute away.

And the only downside to 403b Roth vs Roth IRA is the 403b has limited fund options, correct?

That will vary. Depends on your employer. But in general, yes.

Can always roll it over to a Roth IRA though. Solves that problem pretty easily.

The tax code and IRS regulations prohibit the in-service rollover of employee deferrals and associated earnings prior to age 59 1/2. Although, you can rollover after separation.

I'm just starting residency, so I figure I can just rollover the 403b to a Roth IRA when/if I move on for fellowship. I assume that's what you mean by separation?
