Hi All,
First time poster here, appreciate the advice.
I am a 31 year old Assistant Professor (former MD/PhD, but did not go to residency and have gone 100% into research). My wife is now a 1st year derm resident. I make about $120k, she makes about $60k. I have miscellaneous unpredictable income due to consulting and patent royalties that could be $10-20k. Last year we maxed both our Roth IRAs (income was less since we started our jobs).
In my 403(b) plan, I have the option of investing post-tax money. My employer match is considered pre-tax. I've set my 403(b) savings to pre-tax with the idea of keeping MAGI low and keep the option of contributing to our Roth IRAs again this year (we will be close or over the cap).
My question is, given that my wife's salary will likely increase 5-fold or more from her current salary, should I switch my 403(b) account to post-tax and not worry about the Roth IRAs?
Thanks so much for your thoughts.
