  • Fidelity IRA transfer to Vanguard?

I have a Roth IRA with Fidelity and a financial adviser that I am ultimately transitioning away from.  Can I transfer that account in kind to my Vanguard account?

Ultimately, I want to move everything to Vanguard because I want it all under one roof and to be able to sign in to one place for access to my whole portfolio.

I think you'll find that it's basically six of one, half a dozen of the other.

Many Fidelity funds have slashed their ERs to be more on par with Vanguard; for example, their flagship S&P 500 funds VFIAX and FUSVX are both 0.05%.  From what I've gathered - I'm switching from a smaller institution to either Fidelity or Vanguard and have looked into their online UI, Android app, etc - their look/feel and functionality are very similar, especially the quick and easy ability to do the "backdoor" Roth IRA.

You should be able to do an in-kind trustee-to-trustee transfer without liquidating and reinvesting the assets.  https://investor.vanguard.com/account-transfer/transfer-ira

When Vanguard couldn't accommodate my profit-sharing plan, I went to Fidelity. Very happy with them. Low cost products, good customer service, easy to use internet access and well-designed mobile app.
