I am joining a new practice that offers HDHP that is HSA eligible but they also offer an option of gap insurance to offset the high deductibles. I apologize if this has been asked before but I would appreciate opinion on if I am still eligible for HSA if I sign up for the gap insurance.

Actually, I don't remember this being addressed before in the forum. The gap plan will almost certainly disqualify you from HSA participation.

Depends on if the "gap plan" is a post-deductible HRA which starts at $1,300/self or $2,600/family.  Only in that instance should it not disqualify you from HSA contributions.  Those HRAs can start reimbursing you at the federal minimum deductibles even if they're lower than your HDHP's deductible.  I think this has to be written into the HRA's language. [link]

If it is additional insurance which gives you any compensation below the federal minimum deductibles, then you're no longer eligible for HSA contributions.
