    Sorry to hear that. Yes I would be looking just in case.

    Relying on your boss is problematic. Maybe she doesn't know the true situation of the company. Maybe she does and doesn't want everyone to jump ship if the outlook is grim.

      You and your boss have potentially unaligned interests, when it comes to her disclosure of any information.

      Definitely start looking.

            Sometimes I kick myself for leaving the last job; it was fun, stable, and took care of the bills. But oh well, time to look again sooner than I thought. Maybe the next move should be to a company with an actual product that sells…

              Update: I received an offer from a very large, well-known medical system (System X) for a mid-level Clinical Research Coordinator II/CPT (phlebotomy technician) role. Standard full benefits, salaried role offered at $72.8k (range from the recruiter was minimum-$58.8k, mid-point-$79.5k, max-$101k). I have not yet disclosed my current salary ($55.29/hour, so $115k plus overtime).

              As an academic hospital, I know I won't be able to match my current pay if they were to go to their maximum (they don't know my current pay), but I was a little surprised at not only the offer, but that it was below their midpoint given my academic pedigree and more importantly experience of about 5 years doing various clinical studies in adults/kids, drugs/devices, industry-sponsored/investigator-initiated, etc.

              I also reached out to my contact at another large hospital (System Y) that is interested in bringing me on and gave him information that I have another offer and want to discuss specifics for their system soon (before end of next week).

              Thoughts on how to proceed with the salary negotiation at System X and trying to get System Y to get in gear?

                If System X offered then the negotiations are on. Tell them what you want it get in way of salary and why (because current salary exceeds their range). Give them a reason to believe they can keep you with them if their max range is lower (e.g., you are looking for stability.) perhaps engage them on their flexibility to put the job in a higher range.

                  Absolutely, I am going to formulate a response this weekend with respect to (hopefully) a CRC III title and salary.

                  In parallel, I'll also be working System Y (already e-mailed them with an update that I have an "offer from [an unnamed] medical center" and want to discuss where we are at).

                    Re System Y does your contact have hiring authority, or is at least in recruiting on the HR side? If not, you need to get him to move you on to someone who does. I usually counsel folks interested in my employer to go to the HR website for the employer and fill out the application for employment independently from working the introduction. At least that way I can point potential hiring team leaders to an artifact in the system rather than leaving The engagement personal and open ended.

                      My contact at System Y (as well as the MD-trained Vice President for Clinical Research) both said that HR would reach out to me by the end of this week, but nothing yet.

                      System Y was a referral from a person I worked with previously, and it could be a serious offer. I am working on closing that "gap" by early next week as I negotiate System X...
