  • Partner package offering/buy-in for physician

We're a small MSO with our first asset under management in a fast-growing major Texas metro. Our physician-partner for the MSO doesn't want to practice in this particular practice on a day-to-day basis, so we're negotiating with a mid-career physician who has a presence in this community and wants to strike out on their own.

Our strategic model when we started the MSO was to have partner-physicians for each location, to drive incentive and early buy-in. We could also use some cash in this particular location, so are considering allowing this physician to come in as a partner from the get-go versus waiting several years.

Would appreciate any thoughts, insight, feedback, otherwise on how to best structure a set-up like this and if it is common and/or recommended to allow the physician to buy-in to the practice early on? If so or if you have experience with this, would enjoy hearing how it went for you or your observations.

What do you mean by “We're a small MSO with our first asset under management...”? And, yes, depending on the stature, experience, and reputation, a partnership certainly can allow a short buy-in timeline. Partnership agreements are very flexible - can do basically anything you want within the law.

Why would the physician "buy in" if you guys already own it? What does the buy in get the physician?

Still waiting almost a week for response to my question, we’ll see...

Maybe you have the answer and I simply don’t understand the terminology?

A little concerned with the MSO.
This is your only location. Bought in 2020 from the original founder with what I perceived as a pandemic discount. First post was additional financing and now the physician doesn’t want to practice there? Not sure exactly what you are selling. Office? Partner in what exactly?
