  • Pros and Cons of working for hospital over a democratic group

If pay/perks were basically equal, what would be the advantages/disadvantages of one form of employment over the other?  Specifically pertaining to EM.

Loaded question because the pay/perks will never be equal.

are we talking shareholder / partner in a democratic group, or just employed but not an owner?

Partner.  Guessing the solo 401k makes group stand out.  Probably a lot more ways to reduce taxable income too? Just want to make sure we don't miss something obvious.

Hospital employee is to partner in SDG as riding bus to work is to taking the limo that you own to work

            Owner versus employee.  No comparison.

Pros: Potentially more stable. No risk of your group losing its contract, which seems to be happening more and more.

Cons: No ownership. Fewer tax deductions on W2 vs ownership. Usually less tax advantaged space for retirement contributions as an employee. Generally more difficult to affect significant change in your department or hospital as an employee. More likely to be terminated by a hospital suit or nurse administrator than forced out by your partners.
