  • Can I use old HSA money on spouse\' medical expense?

Hi I had an HSA plan during fellowship prior to marriage. I am now married and no longer have a qualified HSA plan but still have about $500 money in my HSA account. I have been using that money for my medical expenses such as copay. Every month the HSA is deducted $4 for admin fee due to not being enrolled in a HSA plan. Can I use the money in that HSA for my wife's medical expense or copay without tax consequences? Or is the HSA money only for me still. I had previously thought only I can use it but upon further googling it seems otherwise.

Funds in an HSA can be used to cover the qualified medical expenses of you, your spouse and your dependents that occur on or after the establishment date of the HSA.

Yes, you can use this HSA to cover any of your spouse's qualified medical expenses that occur on or after the date of marriage.
