  • ATM Rant

its probably just me, but ATMs feel so antiquated.
the main issue: why is there such a low max draw per transaction? is it just the bank or type of ATM i am using?
it caps out at 400. i can then re-swipe the card and get another 400, etc. its like dbl swiping at the gas station...why?

i dont need cash that often, but when i do, i usually just pull 1K. 3 swipes....i look like a crazy person trying to hack the machine.

does anyone know an actual reason for this?
why 400? and not 300? and not an even 500?
sure fraud, but i can put a transaction or daily limit block on my accounts (everyone needs this btw)...
are the machines not replenished often enough so this keeps upkeep and complaints at a minimum?

and lastly, dont get me started on you guys that are actually using debit cards for purchases. that just Bogle's my mind....

Mine used to max out at $800 in 20s. That was the biggest wad that the machine could physically process in one go. I've never tried getting the same number of bills in 50s now that they're stocked in the machine.

maybe thats it, these machines did not have a 50 option.

also also, i do not have a physical bank to access.

would love to walk in, fill out a slip, wait in line, wait some more while 1 person figures out the customers esoteric request, then talk to a teller, get it all at once however exact i needed, and counted super fast.....

but i dont need a 5th bank account......thats another story.

We have a $400 limit , I usually have no cash , just a phone for payment. So unless I was doing a drug deal it wouldn't bother me.

Oh you silly antique, banks don't stock cash any more. (ok some still do, but the parental unit was shocked to discover the only branch in the city didn't when getting a cash float for a charity event in '19. The businesses in the mall set up an informal banking exchange. Reverting to western days.)

We have a $600 limit, but we we set it as such.

                  I rarely get cash.

I am shocked SHOCKED by this rant on multiple levels.

Debit cards are unsafe. Why would you ever use an ATM? I've never used an ATM in my life, nor do I have a debit card.

I drive through and get $1k cash when I need it. Takes less than 5 mins.

agree, but like i said, i have no physical branch to access.
i also have a lock on the debit card, its not in my wallet unless i am using it to get cash, its never used for purchases, etc.

its not yet enough to push me to make another bank account cause then moving autopay, direct deposit, etc etc etc

We have a $300 limit at our local bank. Last I tested this was 2 years ago I asked my wife to get cash for me when I went to the casino. So the limit might have been her limit.

A simple call/email to your CSR should alleviate this if you show consistent back-to-back draws. Ours used to be $500 per draw / $2000 per day. When we paid our nanny cash - this was a PITA -- until a simple message request to bank to increase--- viola.. draw limit $2000.

                              ref: chase bank.
