I've got no idea what y'all are talking about, but I'd think that anything that affects how your employer operates can have a huge bearing on finances.

        • Uprising against board is not a small thing. Kaiser has a history of it too, so not far fetched if grassroot movements in play at any given time within the large medical group.

          • Does anyone with TPMG here work in primary care? I’m considering signing on in the norcal Sacramento region. The benefits seem great but am a little worried not knowing what the work environment is like. Wondering if anyone has insight on the day to day in the region?

The inbox coverage and burnout/wellbeing are current issues; one of the reasons for a new CEO selection. Generally expect at least 1 to 1.5 hours daily in addition to direct patient care to answer patient emails and labs.

              • This box ratio is pretty low. Our internal data shows Internal Medicine trends to a 20-40% ratio of box:clinic ratio (ie 2-3 hours box per 8 hours clinic). Kaiser puts significant resources to team support to physicians tend to do physician level activity.

The reality is the box and asynchronous care has grown tremendously (and really took off with covid) and many templates on care delivery and productivity measures haven't caught up effectively -- leading to physician burnout since that additional time on the box is largely uncompensated with today's measurements of productivity.

                • Advice for buying shares?
I am due to buy my shares for senior election. I have had money saved in a money market account to allow me to buy max shares but wondering if that's what I should do. Would the selection of the new CEO have any bearing on anyone's decision? Any anticipated upcoming socioeconomic changes that would factor? Getting the max shares would end up representing about 15% of my invested net worth. Also are there any other benefits other than potential earnings to having more shares? Thank you in advance.

Don't have anything meaningful to add but wanted to ask how much are max shares currently? I'm just over two years in and I guess will be in this boat in the next year.

                    • CA & TX Physicians, they are changing PSLF employment requirements...typically you have to be directly paid by a nonprofit/501c3 to qualify. Here's what they are saying counts-

“Allow a qualifying employer to certify employment for a contractor if that individual is providing services that by State law cannot be filled or provided by an employee of that organization.”

Does this pertain to those of you working at Kaiser? I thought it did, but I'm not entirely sure if this is the employment arrangement there.

Here's the legal docs if you're really interested.

                      • Hello everyone, I have been lurking on this thread for a while, first time posting. I am currently a shareholder at TPMG and have been for a few years. Burnout is a huge issue for me, and I am contemplating a change of scenery and venturing out of Kaiser. Does anyone know if it's possible to return to TPMG after leaving for a while, if one left on good terms? I know TPMG retirement benefits are hard to beat. Thanks in advance for any info.

I know of a couple who have done this, seemingly without issue because they're well liked. What I'm unsure of is whether you have to climb through shareholder trek again, or if with the seniority/years experience from prior employment mean you can re-buy the shares nearly immediately upon return. I've found the Physician HR folks to be pretty helpful if you feel comfortable reaching out to them.

                          • Thank you for your reply. I was also under the impression that one could return to TPMG, but a friend of mine who left (not on such good terms) was told she couldn't rejoin unless she was moving out of the area to leave TPMG (she wasn't).

I generally always try to use it for a conference. That will easily eat the registration, hotel, and flight with the current $3,000 allowance (increasing to $5,000 next year).

Our chief and chair of chiefs doesn't care too much what type of conference we go to, so I usually choose one in my specialty or at least specialty-adjacent that's in a good location. Most years I go to a meeting in Hawai'i, but this year I did one at Ritz-Carleton Laguna Niguel (Orange County). Next year going to Fairmont Maui. I find a lot of these good location meetings are conveniently Monday-Friday, so you can make a nice family trip out of it.
