Disability Insurance Occupational Classes

Is there any place to find updated information on the occupational classes for different specialities? Other than the WCI post in September 2014 (https://www.whitecoatinvestor.com/disability-insurance-occupational-classes/), I haven't been able to find a list of information.

I recently received a quote for a Guardian product that had my occupational class (physiatry) listed as 3M, but the chart above has it listed as 4M. I'm not doing pain medicine as a subspecialty, which is listed as 3M, and want to ensure the quote has the correct information.

Your occupation class as a Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Physician is 4M with Guardian.

If you are a resident, make sure to see if a discount is included in the policy.

If you are female, you should also look for policies with a unisex rate and discount. While Guardian does not offer this, other carriers like MassMutual, Standard and Principal might.

Thank you! I will request that they provide the quote from Guardian with the appropriate occupational class. The disability insurance agent was awaiting quotes from a few different companies (I believe MetLife and Standard were on the list - will ask about MassMutual and Principal as well).

Just as an FYI, you are a 6M with MetLife, a 5A-M with Principal, a 4P with Standard and a 5M with Ameritas.

For what it's worth, it seems like you are doing too much work. The agent(s) that you are speaking with should be teaching you - you should not be teaching them.
