    1. The final signature to approve the policy and provide payment method will go to her email address. I helped her fill out the medical history part of her application while sitting side-by-side with her.
    2. So if we buy an own-occupation, LTD policy for her while she's currently employed, then she decides to stay at home to assist with homeschooling, she could collect some kind of monthly benefit from this policy if she gets hurt (e.g. hit by bus) or suffers a serious illness (e.g. cancer)? A doctor asked WCI in a recent podcast whether he could collect from an OOLTD policy if got hurt while taking a year off of working entirely. WCI's response was that this would be risky because the LTD carrier could argue that there's not income in last few months to insure against.
    3. Yes, if she were to stay at home to help with homeschooling. I would consider this to be an important household job that has monetary value to our family. If she were to develop a serious long-term illness such as cancer or suffer a catastrophic accident, having an LTD benefit help with paying medical bills.
    4. What is the maximum duration one can stop working before before the own-occupation definition of disability drops off for her policy? After staying at home with no W-2 job for six moths? One year? What if she were to combine homeschooling with a work-from-home job (e.g. tutoring online)?
    5. I have not heard of this possibility before. I will inquire with the WCI advertiser I am working with for OOLTD coverage to get his opinion. She hasn't agreed to the OOLTD policy just yet.

Are you trying to get LTDI on your wife’s value as a homemaker ? Genuinely perplexed. If she doesn’t work then she can’t have income to replace. If she tutors online for few thousand it’s prob not worth insuring

If you didn't notice my OP, I said she is currently working as a college instructor full-time. She's been working there at the college for the last five years.

She's currently pregnant and plans to take next spring semester off right when baby is born. We're unsure what will happen with her teaching contract since it expires after each academic year. Based on what others are telling me, the OOLTD policy is probably unnecessary for her. Glad I have term-life set up for her at least.
