  • Pick my health insurance: HSA or PPO

Age 36, married, have 2 kids. Third on the way.

    PPO - premium 0. Deductible, $3500 individual, $9000 family
HSA PPO - premium 0. Deductible, $6850 family (no individual deductible). Employer contributes $3000/year of the $7200 max allowed family HSA contribution.

Despite pregnancy in progress, seems like the HSA PPO is a better deal especially since i can pay for my deductible with pre-tax money in the HSA but only can use post-tax money for my deductible in the regular PPO. In fact, to me the HSA seems like a no brainer. The max out of pocket on the HSA is lower than the PPO.

Would anyone do the regular PPO in this setting?

if those are max out of pocket numbers, It looks like HSA may work for your advantage in this case.

it appears 6850 is both deductible and max OOP for the HSA. the only caveat being the deductible resets on 1/1/2022, but it resets as well (at 3500) for the PPO plan

I would go with the HSA and pay for expenses out of pocket and save the receipts.
