  • Moonlighting - disability evaluations

Anyone has ever done disability evaluations as a moonlighting gig during residency or fellowship? I was referred by a friend to this company that will pay 80 dollars an hour. The company seems legit, they have sent me a contract and it seems pretty simple.

I have never done any moonlighting until now (am currently in my third and last year of fellowship) and am completely against doing anything shady or that could jeopardize my career. What do you guys think? Is there anything wrong with this type of moonlighting, or could I potentially put myself into a bad situation if I do it?

I don't know if I would have been comfortable making a disability decision with the amount of training I had as a resident. Do you make a recommendation on whether the person gets disability or just do the exam? Otherwise I don't see anything wrong with it.

I had some co-residents that did this, they liked it fine, I don't think they made any kind of final decision, it was just a physical and paperwork. It definitely seemed completely legit; although they were providing final reads on screening chest x-rays. They were radiology residents, so this was no big deal for them liability wise, but you may feel differently.
