A quick tip on adding links to your forum posts

Have you ever been frustrated by clicking on a link only to lose your current page? Me, too. If you'll add one extra step when embedding a link in your posts, your link will open a new page. Here's what to do:

• Copy (Ctl+C) the URL you want to link to


• Highlight the link area in your post and click Ctl+K (this is the shortcut to the paperclip on icon bar).


• Click on the little gear on the right side of the URL bar that opens


• Hit Ctl+V to paste the URL and click the box that says "Open link in a new tab" and click "Add link"

That's it. Here is a link to my blog without that extra step and a link to my blog after I click the box. Better, right?

I don't always remember to click the box, but I'm going to do better and I hope this will help others who aren't familiar with embedding links and keyboarding.

Sorry, but I am not Mac-enabled :-)

I'm sure the keyboard shortcuts are different but you should have the ability to open a new page.

Yes, it is! I always like to do that, but it would be even nicer to have the link open up in a separate window as a default option. Of course, i have no idea if that's very hard or very expensive to execute.

There is an easier way that doesn't rely on the author of the post to take all those extra steps.

Ctrl+Click will open any link in a new tab.

Ctrl+Shift+Click will open any link in a new focused tab.

I think this works in all browsers. Certainly Chrome and Firefox. Macheads, you'll have to figure out the key combination, but it exists on Mac, too.

I have a habit of always clicking on links this way because I rarely want to leave the page I'm on.

Thanks NotaDoc!... Its easy on Mac too.. click on the link while holding "command" down. How did I not know this all this time!
