Can I use last years Form 8606 for filing?

I'm feeling the same way.  I've had identity theft in the form of a fraudulent Verizon account opened in my name and it really sucked dealing with that (took over a year to clear my name and I still can't get Equifax to erase the false address on my credit report).

I can't imagine how much of a pain it would be to have to deal with the IRS over a fraudulent tax return.  I have pretty much everything I need except for the stuff Vanguard hasn't released yet, so it's pretty frustrating that I have to wait because I feel like a sitting duck.

I actually did over-withhold. I set up my taxes to nail it right on zero in January. Then my wife's job got FSAs, so there was another $7-8k out of taxable income for health and dependent care. Then she got pregnant in March, so another $4k exemption and less income at the higher marginal rate due to maternity leave and not moonlighting. Then some particular charitable causes came up later in the year, and then the higher standard deduction from TCJA meant I prepaid some 2018 deductions like school athletics donations.

All the while it hadn't occurred to me to adjust withholding in the interim, so I ended up paying taxes for about $15,000 more taxable income than I actually had. I was pretty upset about that, but I guess I'll be glad that it's not like I don't get it back, just without anything I would have gained on it.

It's supposedly coming out on 16 February. Why so late, I have no idea. I guess you could try to white-out all the 6s and write in 7s...

Irs is still listing 2016s form on their site. Can I use the same form for 2017 taxes? If not, when do these get updated?
