Happy Thanksgiving! One benefit of working outpatient is never working a holiday. Many thanks to those of you who are taking care of folks today.

On call tonight. Hoping all those pregnant women are sleeping soundly from the tryptophan. Otherwise I plan on seeing lots of 'false labor,' aka those with abdominal pain and pressure from over eating tonight.

    Happy Thanksgiving!

My clinic is closed today and I took tomorrow off so getting to spend the holiday out of town with family. I'm on call Christmas Eve and Day but it's just phone call so no biggie--will still get to celebrate with inlaws in town.

    Happy Thanksgiving to all!

    Happy Thanksgiving!

On call, rounded on my inpatients, now home. It's a small town without hospitalists.

Thank you to those physically in the hospital (e.g. ER, anesthesia are ones I think of), nurses, other hospital staff.

I’m on call today (and was yesterday as well). We also just plan for our Thanksgiving meal on Friday when I’m on call for thanksgiving. I had a few patients in clinic yesterday wish me a Happy Thanksgiving, and I told them I was on call. I think many of them realized in a small way that being a doctor isn’t all fun and games.

Off today. Worked yesterday. Work tomorrow. Work on Christmas. Evenings, nights, weekends, holidays. I've managed to eliminate one of those, decrease another significantly, and decrease the others slightly (by working fewer shifts) but I'll never get rid of them completely as long as I want to practice medicine.

Off! And the house smells like pumpkin pie I'm baking right now. I took the whole week off and we're enjoying visiting with friends and family. Yesterday we helped at a Turkey Fry for Hurricaine Harvey families.

Thanksgiving weekend is the longest call stretch anyone has to take in my group. We could split it up, but then 40% of us would be working every Thanksgiving weekend. As it is, it's a 120 hour stretch of "home call" which probably works out to 50 to 70 hours of in-house work.

Fortunately, I'm off this week. Also last week. And next week. Life is good! Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

For many years my IR partner traveled to spend Thanksgiving with his family, so I was on call. Sometimes there was a case, sometimes not, only once during dinner.

Now that I have dropped IR, I can select my holiday shift, and it will not be Thanksgiving, my favorite holiday. (This year was Labor Day). I am working a half day tomorrow but off the rest of the weekend.

Happy Thanksgiving to all of the members of the forum.
