There is another way to preserve the system. Another possible solution would be benefit reductions, not just cutting inflation increases.

Means testing benefits could hit physicians and other high income people hard. Perhaps reduce benefits as one's income approaches the SS cap and eliminate it once one hits the current cap.

I use the projected benefit reduction as my baseline but also plan for getting nothing. If I get more, great! If not, I am prepared.
